It's no secret we've tried a little everything to fix our D. We brought in Rob Ryan only to fire him after a couple of years. Interestingly according to Jason at the time, Rob was fired coz they wanted to switch to a new scheme that would create more turnovers. As we know, that led to hiring Monte Kiffen and Marinelli, and quite frankly we are STILL searching for more turnovers. Honestly, I'm not sure what's best, but I do know we need to do something different.

** Stay with the current Tampa 2 variation
** Conventional 4-3
** Go back to the 3-4 we used during Parcell/DWare days.

Sidenote ......Both recent interview candidates, McCarthy and Marvin have used the 3-4. Guess my only question switching back is whether or not we have the personnel. I remember someone saying pass rush specialists are easier find under 3-4.
I’m going to be honest and upfront here and tell you I am not a defensive genius, so I don’t know “the lingo”.

I just want a defense without the GIANT GAPING WHOLE IN THE MIDDLE where the Tight Ends and Slot Receivers get to have a field day all day every day.

And please throw away our “Bend Don’t Break” Philosophy which has our DBs 30yds back on a 3rd and 28!!!

How did everyone feel about Vrabel’s rush NO ONE at end of half situations last night. That was a new one for me.

11-0. Everyone on the line, and beat your man.

Lewis has ran mutiple schemes. He started as a 3-4 guy in Pittsburgh, developed a hybrid in Baltimore, and ran a 4-3 in Cincy (and I believe they had an even front even before Zimmer)

I prefer 4-3 with 75% sub packages
A 3-4 is typically a better run defense. I wouldnt be againt a 3-4 base with a 4-2 sub package. Thats what most 3-4 teams run anyways.

However, we might struggle if teams throw on us in base D.

I personally prefer the 4-3. D Law doesn't fit a 3-4, but I think Woods and Collins would be fine. I wonder if Jaylon Smith could be better as a 3-4 OLB.

We need a guy who can change things up when needed. Disguise coverages, sometimes use 3 DT if needed, other times use 2. Whatever it takes to make the QB nervous with whomever we have.

Give me the Spagnuolo and Jim Johnson version of the 4-3. Blitzing On pretty much every down. Change up coverages so while there’s pressure every play there’s no automatic where to go with the ball. It makes guys like Lito Sheppard look like Pro Bowlers

Yeah I've always preferred the 4-3 by far. But if you have the personnel at LB the 3-4 can be pretty deadly. I just don't know that we do.

One that requires Lawrence to play more than 20% of the snaps

Anyone that doesn't include anywheres near what this year's scheme was AND HAS TO INCLUDE PLAYING UP ON RECIEVERS NOT 10 YARDS OFF !!!

Now I'm not the smartest bulb in the pack I have never claimed to be but playing 10 yards off of receiver makes no freaking sense to me whatsoever

Not a bad idea I like it far better than what we're doing now or we have done that's why when you blitz a linebacker all the time to middle center never has a chance to pull he always has to deal with that

And if he doesn't and he pulls anyway Bingo you have instant pressure

I don't care what we play as long as we're aggressive and tackle well
