What did everyone think of the A.Henry PI call on Burress on the NYG final TD drive?

The receiver blocked Ware below the waist. It is pretty clear by the definition of the rule.

No it's not. A crackback is a block behind the defender at the knees however that is not even called much for the most part it is when a defender is engaged with one blocker and a second blocker hits him low. Plain and simple that was a poor call that went in our favor.

That is not what the rule book defines the penalty to be. It isn't limited to behind the defender. It includes any block below the waist. They changed that rule several years ago. It used to only be blocks in the back by the receiver was considered a crack back. They then included any contact below the waist.

4. Crackback: Eligible receivers who take or move to a position more than two yards outside the tackle may not block an opponent below the waist if they then move back inside to block.

I thought I saw Crayton make that same type of block later in the game on a MBIII run, but I didn't see where he lined up. Initial alignment plays a role in whether it is legal to go at the legs or not.

from inside the stadium it looked like the flag was thrown late also

It is seldom called that way, I watch many games and see the same blocks every game and every week and it is not called. I felt we got a great break on that call.

I thought there was a huge holding call on the Giants first drive that was missed

Oh, do you mean the holding on Ware, where if he was not held he would have sacked Manning before he threw the TD pass to Shockey? That should have been called holding, the TD should have been retracted, and the Ginats would have lost 10 yards and ended up punting. Yup, the ref was the Ginat's 12thm man all game and they spotted them 7 points early on. Horrible - just horrible - officiating!

The crack back call was the worst in the game in my opinion.

The Giants don't have much room to complain though, because the very next play Brandon Jacobs rumbled through our secondary on that screen for 50 yards.

I agree. I don't buy the refs were favoring the Giants I think they made some bad calls both against the Cowboys and Giants.

I know Aikman commented he saw nothing on that play that would be considered PI.

Aikman couldn't have said that. Everyone knows he's anti-Cowboys. ;)

The PI call was complete garbage.

Not only was Ware held on the TD pass, the Gaurd helped out by bashing Ware in the face too(could have had two flags on that play). Where in the world were Roy and KD on the coverage though?

How could it possibly be the worst call when it was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT?

Anyone who says that's not a penalty doesn't know the rule. And anyone who says that happens all of the time and never gets called doesn't know what he's talking about. The penalty is very specific. So while there are low blocks in every game, they're not the same as an illegal block like that one.

Here's the exact rule (Rule 12, Section 2, Article 10) --

Article 10
At the snap, an offensive player who is aligned in a position more than two yards laterally outside an offensive tackle, or a player who is in a backfield position at the snap and then moves to a position more than two yards laterally outside a tackle, may not clip an opponent anywhere, nor may he contact an opponent below the waist if the blocker is moving toward the position where the ball was snapped from, and the contact occurs within an area five yards on either side of the line of scrimmage.

In other words, if a player lines up more than two yards outside the offensive tackle (as Tyree did) blocks down toward the ball (as Tyree did) and blocks below the waist (as Tyree did), that's a penalty.

Roy was on the other side of the field, where he should have been.

Davis was failing cover Shockey.

Well, I did not know the rule and obviously Aikman did not either, but I figured you would.

And I am not being sarcastic at all, I was waiting for you to chime in and give us the ruling.

I only know thise from watching the Commanders' game earlier in the day. Tim Ryan claimed that when a player comes from outside the tackle box as the Giant did (Tyree?) and takes out a defensive player below the knee, it is a crackback.

Based on what Tim Ryan said, I think it was the right call on the crackback.

By the way, Owens was called for the same penalty a few games ago, and nobody said a peep about it being a bad call.

So now not only did the ref get it wrong, but TO too? Wasn't ANYONE paying attention to this game? ;)

And the rule of not cut block outside the tackles is a good one. If you have a player running at full speed which is much more likely to happen outside the tackles and you go for the knees like that then injuries would be rampant.

It's mostly because the defender is going to be looking inside toward the ball, and he won't always be able to see the guy trying to blast him in the knees.

TO said after the game he jumped. He said the guy covering him caused him to flinch.
And he did jump, but at the same time Gurode was snapping the ball.
