What do the 'boys do with Colombo?

First off, let me say I'm stoked with getting Smith with the #9. If the 'boys are going to make any consistent noise in this league, we gotta keep Romo off of his back and be able to sustain offensive drives. This keeps our defense rested for more than a 3-and-out more.

Smith has huge upside and will bolster our aging OL immediately. The pass protection for Romo and the running game for Felix and MBIII (?) improved dramatically with this pick. Again, I'm stoked.

My question is, what do the 'boys do with Colombo?

Gray Hound tickets to the Free Reign reunion in Miami?

Thanks fellas. Any chance the 'boy cut him and resign him cheap as insurance/added depth? I think Young would be Smith's backup. My thoughts are if Young couldn't beat out Colombo last year as a starter, we are in a heap of trouble if Smith misses a game or two due to injury and we have to insert Young.

But him on the bench and cut Barron immediately.

Colombo was horrid. Barron was detestable.

Keep him around to be a backup and mentor. Or cut him and add him to the coaching staff as offensive line assistant or something. The guy has been a solid pro for us, and has battled through alot of injuries. Always played with the right attitude and fire and im glad he was a part of this team. Its unfortunate, but his career has come to end end, and he just physically can't do it anymore.

You release him. No question about it.

Liked his toughness and attitude, but his time is done. He cant play any position except RT, and he doesnt play that very well anymore.

The guy was not healthy at any time last season.

I would not cut it right now. I think he can still play when healthy.

I think Colombo is finished.

The heart is willing but the body isn't.

"Marc, the coach needs to see you. Bring your playbook."

No need on Barron, he's a free agent.

Nobody thinks he could move inside to RG?

I'm all for keeping Columbo, fwiw.

Folks remember that heavy overload running formation we use? Yeah, drop the TE playing at RT and bring in Columbo instead.

Smith Free Kosier Gurode Davis Columbo

That's a ton of meat coming at you on third and short, especially if you pull Columbo around underneath and kick out Davis to slow down the back side pursuit.

Barron is a UFA I believe. He is gone.

Bingo ... if he's willing to accept a backup role (if that's how it plays out).
