Thornton won't stop us from drafting another DT, but it clearly won't happen in early rounds, and we won't dip into free agency for another DT.
DE....nothing left in free agency that will actually help our pass rush except for Robert Ayers (likely bidding war with Jacksonville) and Greg Hardy (very unlikely). However, we drafted two DEs last year. Lawrence and Gregory and Russell are supposed to improve each year; we have other guys who can slide out there, and Mincey is still a possibility. Unless we take a DE in round one (top or trade down), I don't see us taking another guy like Russell in other rounds.
In my opinion, this leaves us looking at Ramsey, Bosa, or a QB at 4.
Unless we are convinced that a QB is a can't miss guy (unlikely), I think it looks more and more likely that we hope for a trade down to secure 1-2 additional starters. Ramsey is my top target as options are very limited in the secondary right now.
But what's the backup plan if he goes to SD?
What's left that we can shore up in Free Agency at this point?
