What do we do to cut down on penalties?

They said during the game Sunday that the Falcons brought the people who comitted penalties in the previous weeks game up before the team in a meeting and shamed them so to speak.
Why dont we do something along those lines? Or do we?
Your thoughts?

I feel like penalties are way down the last few games

Get rid of the county club circus that the Owner/GM runs?

That isn't part of the process.

They are, because we're half-way through the season, and because the team has acclimated to the new Center.

We are still #30 in the league in penalties per game. We average 7.8 per game. Against Atlanta, we still had 7. Not much of an improvement, unless you are comparing it to the 13 we had against Baltimore.

maybe we could have the whole team wear the rookie minicamp helmets that have the star missing...trick the refs into thinking we're NOT the cowboys and then they won't feel so inclined to screw us over.

If this source is any good, we're tied for 8th best in the league over the last three weeks, and improved by a considerable margin over our early season and even last year:

That's progress from where we started the season with the obvious issues on the OL.

It causes Jerry too much pain to see his players take the heat for things like that. He liked it so much better when Wade did it for them.

Hire refs during the week for practices. Even if it is the scab refs...

I think that all teams should do that.

I believe we're still doing that regularly. We were at one point, anyway.

Then it throws it back to the coaches or players.

If the team is willing to bring in the refs to help them, and they still have regular problems. The coaches are not enforcing it or the players aren't getting it.

It's a bit of a mystery. The early OL penalties make sense, given our starting C had been on the roster most of a week prior to the beginning of the season. But we've had penalty problems for years here, and it's tiresome.

I've seen plenty of stats that show penalties don't correlate strongly with winning or losing in the NFL, but I've never seen them separated out or adjusted to know how meaningful that aggregated data is.

Whatever the cause, though, it's irritating that we can't get a handle on it, and frustrating to see yet another holding call on first down at the start of a critical drive in the fourth quarter of a one-score game.

Get a new coach and a new atmosphere. Next year maybe the year after...

I thought it was interesting what they said Mike Smith did, first meeting day after a game. They said anyone who had committed a penalty was called in front of the team and the team watched the play with that player standing in front of the whole team.

Might change your concentration if you knew that was going to happen. By the way I believe they said they were the least penalized team in the league.

we stack and stack and stack

and when we are done stacking, you know what we do?

stack some more

Besides Jerry firing himself which we know he won't do, we need a head coach with a pair of nuts to hold this team accountable for their mistakes.

You cannot win in this league with turnovers and mental mistakes, only the smart teams and coaches do.
