preach on.

BPA, period.

Drafting for need gets you the David LaFleur's and Shante Carver's of the world..........you fill needs in free agency, the draft is all about making the right moves trade wise and drafting the best player available at each pick.

Let's see....BPA huh?

During Aikman's tenure here and the BPA was a QB do you take him? Wasted pick.

Emmitt in his prime? BPA is an RB....do you take him? Wasted pick.

Not to mention the money that is just sitting on the bench.

This is a new NFL where one team can be 3-13 one year and 13-3 the next....it's not the NFL of 5-10 years ago.

BPA in an area we need. O line; Secondary; LB; there should be a half dozen guys in each of those areas that are about the same value when we draft.
At any spot in the draft there are probably at least a dozen players of about the same worth. Grab whoever is highest on your board in a position that needs upgrading.
FAs for me: Thomas and Steinbach.

you trade the pick in that scenario.......your post reeks of someone who has no clue what the draft is all about.

I could explain to you how Ron Wolf explained grading of players, then when you have a group of players with the basic same grade, then from that group you then list in order of need.................but that would be a waste of time I see.

If you are picking at 17 let's say and you have great need for a T, but the best tackle left is ranked 38th on your overall board and you have 15 players rated above him, you don't take the lesser graded player simply because that players fills a more glaring need than a player that is on the board at 17 that you have rated 11 on your sheet.........I'll say it again, free agency is for filling needs, the draft is about grabbing the BPA when you pick.

you just don't get it do ya Scott? You don't.

I understand that you trade the pick away, I just get sick of hearing BPA no matter who it is. Duh.

And who is Scott?

rewatch Austin Powers.

BTW, one reason the Pats and Steelers have been competative for so long is they go by the BPA motto.....teams that struggle draft soley based on need.

How about Greg Olson from the U....

He can replace our 2nd round TE last year...

#56 if he is still there.

He woud fit our 3-4 perfectly.

No brainer. OL first and foremost unless we pick up two really good and fairly young OL through free agency. Then corner/safety and an outside pass rusher. Obviously if we were picking and a great skilled player was available (a la a certain Ga. Tech. WR), we'd have to take him, but unless a skille player just falls in our laps, we need the aforementioned positions.

please no more linebackers. we've drafted james, ware, burnett and carpenter in the last 4 years and still searching for linebackers. not to mention the FA signings of Singleton, Ayodele and Boiman. no more LB's please. for the record: Shanle, Fujita, & Boiman are starting elsewhere. (not to mention godfrey and coakley)

For those wanting to draft Calvin Johnson, be prepared to trade draft picks and a pretty high class player to move all the way up within the 1st 5 picks.

I would go BPA at the position of need. If you need a QB/RB/DE, who ever is the best of that group, you draft him unless those guys are far worse than where you're drafting, then you trade the pick.

James was a 4th round draft pick.

Carpenter should be moved inside in the 3-4.

Face it, with the 3-4 you NEED linebackers. If Ellis isn't around next year we NEED a pass-rushing LOLB. Carpenter ain't that guy.

then burnett and carpenter are busts. i say we let them pan out before we draft yet another player in the same position.
