I thought Collins played well and deserves to play. What happens when Leary is ready to come back?

Hopefully we'll give Collins a shot at right tackle at some point. Maybe I just notice Free when he's being pushed around, but I have noticed him.

Oh, Leary will start when he's ready, IMO.

Good question...Collins displays a talent level Leary won't ever reach. But Doug Free continues to struggle. I'd think you would want to get your best 5 out there....and Collins is one of your best.....but I don't like the idea of moving him around from G to T. Let Collins play were you see his long term future. No need to play games w/ this kids head. Last week he blew a few assignment like pulling the wrong way on sweeps/not making his cutoff blocks on the 2nd level. But to his credit he cleaned up alot of the mental mistakes...except for the illegal formation penalty. Kids still learning the position

This ^^.

Leary has one more season here and is our best option. Collins can start next season.

Why wouldn't Leary be back next year? He's RFA and we'd be nuts not to tender him high

Leary is the starter when he is healthy. Collins is still making mistakes. He looks great in 1-on-1 blocking but he is not always making the correct block. I recall a specific run play where Randle was buried in the backfield. It was a Zone Stretch Right and Fred initially blocked the defender but released that defender as Fred was moving left. Collins should have been there to pick him up, but wasn't.

Then why would Leary come back as the starter if Collins is so superior?

Earliest that would potentially occur is next year, IMO.

That being said, I think Leary is no longer part of the team next year and Collins takes over.

I don't disagree with this, but if Leary comes back against the saints forcing collins to the bench, I hope the coaching staff gives him looks at RT during practice from now till the end of the season. The way I see it is that collins gave Garrett & co enough positive film these past two weeks that they realize the best 5 is to have both leary and collins on the field at the same time. I believe Free is the most fragile of the bunch and wouldn't everyone feel better having collins out there rather than Brown or Weems if Free were to go down during the playoff push.
