I'm a risk manager for a very large and well known oil company. Basically, I handle crude oil and figure out what to make out of it (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, etc.) so that the company can get the most bang for its buck.

Gas prices are low right now, but don't blame me when they go up :laugh1:

No, I'm actually not in that society. This job is more of a rotational assignment that they gave me about 10 months ago, so I'm kinda new to it. My background is Chemical Engineering, and I got an MBA about 5 years ago on top of that.

The concept of the job is basically oil refinery optimization where I evaluate the cost of different types of crude oil (our feedstock), and the value of our products that we make from crude oil at the refinery. I then try to find a happy medium that maximizes value using a linear programming computer model of the entire refinery.

As of late, we're losing money because gasoline at wholesale prices is actually trading below the cost of crude oil. We're doing a little better financially than other refineries because we're diesel heavy (i.e. we make more diesel that most other plants).

These are strange and interesting times in my world...but it is a lot of fun.

Tech Writer for software company...and seemingly professional student.

I have a company that does political fund raising here in the Washington, D.C. area.

Right now I am working at an Auto Garage doing bookkeeping and I do computer repair from home. I am also working on my Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems Security at ITT-Tech, here in Louisville.
