What do you like about Wade Phillips?

I like that he's decisive.
Look at all the players he got rid of. And I kept hoping he'd fire himself, but nooooo.

As far as his new attitude, it's kinda cute that some here expect for that old dog to learn new tricks suddenly. He's had a lifetime to be that way and suddeny he's supposed to be a Jimma? C'mon, he's still an old mutt who can't inspire his team.

And as far as his defensive acumen: He is such a guru that he hired that god-awful Stewart to be defensive coordinator.
If he's the defensive guru, why has he not, as a HC hired an offensive guro and together take their team to the Super Bowl?

He's Bum's son and nothing else.
Smoke and mirrors and shrugs.

You who believe he can suddenly change and be fiery and lead this team into the playoffs are the same ones who'd believe he can be a long-range answer when, in fact, he's a lame duck and everybody -- from jerra on down to the towel boy -- knows that.

As a guy I'd like to have a beer with, yeah. As the head coach of the most valuable NFL franchise and most glamorous team in the universe, hell no!

I like a lot of things about Wade.

Save that post, Lab. All of yew save his post. And at season's end, take it down from the altar and dust it off and examine it.

I cannot believe (well, yes I can, sort of) that his supporters have stooped to say that detractors don't like him because of the way he speaks.
And that he's overweight.

Bull shoot.

I won't go over all the reasons a lot of true fans do not believe in him.
But to use the overweight and speech card is beyond the pale.
And btw, I don't know what part of Texas you live in but many, many Texans do not speak like neanderthals. Many in this area do not carry on like uneducated rubes they way he presents himself to the public. Look at Jimma. He's Texas bred. He speaks like a smart man. He doesn't resort to Bum-isms and shrugs and the hand to the forehead in disbelief manner.
And, frankly, unlike you, I don't care what Northeasterners think of Wade of any of us who live in this part of the country. I don't care if our coach speaks like Jethro Bodine; I just want the Cowboys to win consistently and be champions.

He may have defensive smarts. He might be a defensive guru.
But until he wins ONE playoff game or goes deep into the playoffs he'll be just another dumb shut who talks like he looks and no one on his team respects.

Don't use the overweight or speech card. Just be honest and tell it like it is. Many fans don't like him because he can't lead, he can't inspire and he can't win a playoff game as HC. Other treams have tried him and dumped him.

Jerra will dump him. Count on it.

Save this post and at season's end, if you dare, take a look at it and grimace. Just like Wade does when his orders are waved off by the QB or when he can't explain why a team like this as talented as this COULD NOT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS last year.

George Dunham's "Fake Wade" impression always cracks me up. I'll miss that.

I don't agree with you, mostly because you're making a linguistic analysis that is flat out fallible. But I like the post.

Yeah one big dysfunctional family. The thing is, when the game starts we are all on one page.
Coaches and players come and go but I like to think that the Dallas Cowboys franchise is bigger than everything and the important thing is the team plays at its best and its optimum, Wade or no Wade. And I really believe Wade won't be here next year.

OK, mens, one big group hug.

GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate two things about Wade:

I think he's a very good defensive coach who knows X's and O's and is pretty good at spotting defensive talent.

I also believe he's a very kind, decent person.

Bingo. Very strong at X's and O's. He can make a very good gameplan and call one heck of a defensive game.

Plus, if he likes a particular defensive player in the draft (or free agency)... you would do well to listen to him. He picked up Octavien last year when he was on a practice squad and he targeted Curtis Johnson this year as a pass rusher. Those kind of pick-ups are all Phillips.

i like wade in many ways.. and all i can hope for.. is for him to win a Superbowl.. this would make him look so good.. but all in all.. i like the man//say im crazy or what ever.. but i do respect the man

i really dont see how anyone can like anything about wade phillips

2008 was the biggest single season flop in franchise history

embarrassing

i really dont care if he is a "good guy", he still has zero playoff wins in dallas

What do I like about Wade Phillips?

Well, my son thinks he looks like my dad.

He says, "Coach looks like Grandpa."

I like that he has been in the NFL for so long. He knows his way around the league and he knows X's and O's.

And yes, he has won playoff games. Just not as a head coach.

Like Buddy Ryan?

This team will never win a Super Bowl with him as head coach. He does not have the leadership required to inspire a team to play at or above their comfort zone.

Get a real head coach!!!

If we win it will be in spite of him.

Clearly his defensive knowledge. He is one helluva defensive coach. Lead the league in sacks last year, just wish some of those sacks turned into more turnovers!

Agreed on all counts.

i think he is a good defensive coordinator but i dislike him as a head coach..

Wade is the kind I would like to spend a day with on a lake fishing, or sitting around BS'ing with. He seems like a good down to Earth fellow. I hope he can turn the team around this year and win in the playoffs. He deserves to be remembered well.
