What do you need to see?

What do you need to see this weekend to make you believe that a change has, at the very least, begun?

For me, and I HATE saying this, is the effort that they put out. Personally, I like what Aikman said when he talked to Lovie Smith...Lovie said "They don't get paid for effort, they get paid to make plays..."

Aikman liked that quote and I do as well, which is why it pains me to say that I want to see more "effort" out of these guys. It's reached that point for me.

I would also like to see MBIII not getting a majority of the rushes. I just think he's done, but I don't KNOW that for sure since I believe that it doesn't matter WHO is running behind this o-line.

Those are just two small things that I would like to see...I just do NOT want to see what we have seen the last 3 weeks.

Honestly though, doesn't that seem like ages ago? Plus, no Romo.....so we aren't going to see that....not against the Giants.

I don't expect much to be different at all.
No coach can bench as many players at once as we need to.
No coach can convince this many ummmm players how much they need to
change their obvious bad work habits in just a few days.

Quite honestly I don't think they are even worried about what Jerry said nor
smart enough to even heed the warnings.

I expect more of the same with a player to be benched that wouldn't have made a difference in the game any way.

I want to see minimal mistakes, which means more attention is put on detail.

I want to see better execution, and better focus.

I would like to see more effort, but I don't mind it as much as many others do. This team had Super Bowl aspirations, and they're sitting at 1-7. It would be very tough to go out and throw your body around with the physicality that is needed to succeed in the NFL with the same level of effort if you were in a position to reach your goal this year.

Man, I hear ya and can see all of that happening.

My wishes - I would like to see Eli taken down hard. Not just once but a few times. Once a quarter will do nicely.

When a WR catches the ball I want them hit hard.

I will live vicariously through those "events" :)

It seems like a dream. It seems like a vision I saw of what this could have been.

I don't know what I want to see. It's very hard for me to get into talent evaluation/pre-season mode again because these games are for real and I still want to win. It's hard for me to accept that we can't win Sunday.

I ALWAYS think we can win...it's the homerism in me :D

I go through all of these scenarios in my head...."They'll get it figured out this weekend..."..."The Giants aren't even taking it seriously..."..."We have all this talent on this team, so it's BOUND to kick in sometime..."

You know...things like that..... :D

I want to see a team that fights. One that gives a rat's rear end.

I am not that concerned with specifics as I am the overall attitude of the team. This team went in the tank faster than a mob hit victim.

I want to see some fire from someone other than Dez, who by the way, as it stands right now is the POY for this team so far. (Sorry Dez, I know it's not saying much).

I would also like to see better coaching decisions. Don't challenge stupidly. Don't burn time outs like they are worthless.

I also want to see a better controlled defense. We had so many guys out of position on defense the last few weeks. I know part of it was the attitude but still.

And finally, I would like to see a win if at all possible. Even if we run the table I doubt we make the playoffs. But a win against the Giants on the road can mean a lot to this team to build on for next year.

If we were playing the Giants at home, I might be inclined to believe we could win. But with the struggles this team has faced and the coaching change in mid-week like this and then going to play a 6-2 team in their own swirling-winded toilet bowl, it's not possible. We're going to walk into a buzz saw.

But, you know, let's take down a few of them to join us in Hell.

If we do somehow beat the Giants, then you won't believe how many people you never heard of will all of a sudden claim they knew Garrett was going to be a great coach all along. I've heard it before. Remember how folks acted about Romo?

I agree with you on that.

Garrett needs to implement more play-action into the game.

...not without a credible run threat from the base offense and definitely not if they fall behind early...most of the Cowboys problems would go away if they simply had a potent ground game...saves the defense, limits possessions, limits interceptions, controls the clock, shortens the game, keeps it close, saves your quarterback...

...but as Sturm so elegantly noted, the Cowboys running game has atrophied to the point of non-existence...if they come out like they did against Green Bay they will get smashed and it will be over by halftime...the Giants front four has swagger, savvy and salt...and unlike Dallas they have confidence and enough game film to replicate the results of a few weeks ago, assuming that the Cowboys can score 5 turnovers and a TD return...

Change cant happen till the off season. This roster and coaching staff is tainted.

Just the team showing heart and giving 100% win or lose.

aside from a few you can count on one hand....

it is not going to happen.

we need to do like mike said....

get a pen and paper and get rid of about 8 to 10 heartless, gutless, overpaid millionaires who have no idea what it means to represent the star.

much less themselves.

so terribly true..

great post.

Here is something that I dont necessarily see but I feel needs to happen behind closed doors.

I think that Garrett needs to pick the strongest player(mentally) and make them captain and attach a list of demands that he expects from them.

If Garrett goes after players too much out of the gate it will probably lead to a revolt. But if he gets the trust of players and asks them to do certain things it can speed up the process.

This is akin to the Yankees making Jeter captain. All players look to him and know that they have to try their best because that what he is doing all the time. Right down to the intangibles.

Garrett - pick one or two players on defense and offense. Get it done, RED.

A good leader doesn't need to bench a lot of players. If Garrett has the skills then all he needs to do is bench the RIGHT player at the RIGHT time. Everyone else will take a cue off that.

Now finding the right player at the right time is extremely difficult, and there are a ton of risks involved. If you give in to personal biases, the team will quickly dissolve into pettiness and clicks. If you choose the 3rd string guard on an insignificant play, then the team will know its more show and laugh at you. And if you do nothing, well the team will quickly fade away.

I think Garrett has to look for that moment early in the game, when a player of consequence clearly takes a play off. At that moment he has to be right there, and know in advance his basic plan; either a) get in the player's face, call him out and send him back in immediately with a chance to redeem himself or b) call him over, and bench the player for several series.

A good example, was the Jenkins play. No one was there to call him out. No one made it clear that that type of play was unacceptable.

It will be a hard transition, and one reason interim coaches fail is because the players tend to think that they aren't going to be around too long. If Garrett picks the right battle early he could turn your team around pretty quickly.

(as a side note: and I tend to look at Shanahan's battle with AH like this on a grander scale, the other side is you have to get several Key players buy in. In Shanahan's case it was Clinton Portis and London Fletcher. Both players came out early and often in the Locker room feeding the same basic, work hard play hard mentality and for CP that was a definite shift from his tenor with Zorn)
