Man, it's Grinchville this time of year on the Cowboys Zone.

I was wondering, what do you think of Laurent Robinson. Do you think we ante up for the guy next year? Why?

And more importantly, what do you think he brings in this game against Philadelphia?

I think he is a very good WR and important part of the team. I really have little doubt Jerry will get him resigned. Dallas is not spending that much at the WR position. Miles has a good contract outside of that the others are very managleable. What he brings to the game is another legit threat for Romo. We don't have to force the ball to Miles or Dez we just need to hit the open man and it is easier with all 3 guys as opposed to not

Can't negotiate with him during the year but I suspect they will go after him hard early on. They need to know if he's locked up as soon as possible. Not sure we will look at WR real hard if he's on board.

The dude is one of the best pickups in a long time. I'm not sure when the last time I have seen him drop a pass...plus, the man knows his routes and has not been injured that I know of. Hell, Miles Austin had been my biggest disappointment so far this season.

R2A will be coming your way soon to correct your thinking ;)

Naw....I got chemicals to do that.

R2A does scare me though...with his "man love"!

I agree with this, but Miles has been injured. Meanwhile, this guy has been lights out.

Best #3 in the NFL. So we should pay him as such.

Better than Victor Cruz?

Better than Jason Avant?

Better than Austin Collie?

Those are the only notable number threes of whom I can think.

I'd take him over all 3 of those.

I think he was a really good find. Pretty much the perfect 3rd WR for this team. The problem that's going to present itself is that the Cowboys have waited too long to negotiate with him. He's going to have the opportunity to go elsewhere and by a #2 or a even a #1, if a team is particularly delusional. I don't think the Cowboys should break the bank to keep him, so they have to let him walk. The breakup will hurt both sides though. He has free agent bust written all over him and I seriously doubt the Cowboys will find a 3rd WR as good.

Robinson is a decent player but he benefits immensely from playing with Romo and if he leaves us he will be a JAG again. He cannot beat man coverage consistently and does not force defenses to plan against him. He is a nice complement to Miles and Dez but that is all he is.

We should give him no more than what Jordy Nelson got and Nelson has been far more producitve for a longer period of time than he has.

Nelson got 3 years $13.5M. 5 years $30M based on 1-year of production which is mostly from Romo improvisation and all the coverage that Dez, Witten and Miles (when he is in there) attracts is nuts. This is the sort of thinking that nets us a roster full of overpaid JAGs that can't compete with the best in the league. The Patriots have had no problem over the years with letting such players go, get paid elsewhere and then come back to the team at a discount. This is the model we should follow as well.

I know some will say we should pay more and get involved in bidding games for the guy but that's how you end up with flawed rosters like we have today. The cap is a zero sum game and every dollar you pay one player is less money to pay another player. We are missing one pressure player, one premium CB and two interior lineman and it will cost money to fix those problems. Money that we can't waste on overpaying a #3 WR when we already have Dez and Miles on the field. It doesn't matter that the WRs don't earn much because when you add in Witten's premium salary we are probably in the top 5 in the league in money paid to WRs and TEs.

Good #2, very good #3 receiver. I don't think you should let those types of players go if you can afford it.

I didn't realize this until after I ventured over to NFL.com, but Victor Cruz is having an impressive season. He ranks fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, and he has 7 TDs, two less than our Robinson. However, Cruz is currently listed as a starter. I don't know if the promotion is permanent or temporary.

Cruz is their #2, potentially #1 receiver. And, yes, better than the others.
