To me, the score in a preseason game means nothing. It is about individual performances, the execution and the physical play that you want to see, and how entire units perform… not necessarily how the offense does or how the defense does as a whole. And certainly not the scoreboard.
I want to see energy and crispness in the team’s execution. Last week, the entire team was just off, pretty much. Maybe they were tired from camp and practice against Denver, and playing in that altitude just got to the team. It happens. Every preseason the team has a preseason game where they just look off. This was it for this year’s squad.
I expect it to be much better in this game, although we’ve got to see it.
As for individual players:
Tolbert. I’d like to see him running good routes and catching the opportunities he gets. I was watching a documentary recently about Joe Montana and in it they talked about Jerry Rice’s rookie training camp. Rice had a severe case of the drops that whole preseason that went well into the regular season. It happens. Jamar Chase last season, too. I’m not going to beat Tolbert up for a drop in his first preseason game ever with backup QB’s throwing him the ball. However, I want to see him looking like he can help in the regular season. That is something that, speaking for myself, just comes with watching him play and seeing what he does more than his stats from the game.
T. Smith. I just want to see more of what we saw last week with him… just with his hands a little more inside. His feet and strength were impressive. Dude can be a great one of he gets the techniques down.
Sam Williams. More of what we saw last week for him as well, minus the roughing penalty, of course. But even that was borderline. I’d like to see a sack, but we can tell a lot just by watching how he moves and how he attacks the OL blocking him. If he’s playing a certain way and beating his guy… then the sacks will come once the teams are game planning. Quinn can get him loose a couple of times in a game. But he needs to be showing like he did last week.
Bland. Just keep it up kid. If he plays this week anything like he did last week… he’s going to solidify what all our eyes are telling us. He definitely has the athleticism and length. But he’s showing smarts, football IQ, and a work ethic that can make him a lot more than just a late round pick that snuck onto the 53. He’s showing that he can legitimately help a team with playoff aspirations.
Run game. They gained a good bit of yardage last week. I want to see more of that tonight. Nothing demoralizes a defense more than a running game they can’t shut down. If Dallas can get that fixed, it is going to make a big difference this season.
Finally, I want to see the DL continuing what we saw early against the Broncos. Denver couldn’t get any room to run and there was constantly a DL in the backfield, mucking things up. If that kind of penetration continues into the regular season… look out.
I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

It’s all about the OL for me. Can they block without committing penalties? How does the depth look? Has Ball improved? Can whoever starts at C anchor?
Outside if that I’m hoping to see Bland continue to show up and make the coaches make a difficult decision.
I’d also like to see Sam Williams rush a little more effectively. He showed serious flashes last week, but had trouble getting home.

As much as I'd like to see Dak start and do well, Will Grier hopefully will be my #2 QB as the 2022 season begins. I'd be well pleased to see him start vs. the Chargers tonight. He needs to establish himself as our #2 QB ASAP. Tonight, would be a great time to put that process into motion.

Agreed -- Rush's performances haven't been impressive. Will Grier should be an upgrade. He'll only get better, imho.

I think we saw all of it except Noah Brown didn't play and Tobert was a bit disappointing (though had four targets). Of course, Turpin stole the show as well.

OK less penalty's sure, but mainly I want:
1.see Grier at qb check
2.see Bland have another good game check
3.see Turpin have a big play check
4.see our wr's not be BLAND not really
5.see more of malick davis check
6.see ridgeway start a fight or something ! check (the cheap shot)
7.see more of nooch after grier, and leave rush on bench, let him play in last PS game! Check (limited Rush)
8.see Mike take over play calling, lets see what that looks like ! Dont be afraid of jerry mike do it! its PS ! Don't think it happened
9.see a fake punt get the 1st down! Instead of the usual 4th down pass that fails. Don't think it happened
I think if any dallas starters are going to play PS, this is the game they will play a series or 2.
So would not mind seeing that, but dont really care if they do or not.
Probably got 6/9 of your wishes so not bad.
