Tony Romo......

Great find as an undrafted rookie?....yes

Future in this league?.....yes

Great showing in the preseason......yes

Starting NFL QB right now?....NOT EVEN CLOSE

At least at this point, look I'm glad we found a viable BACK UP to Bledsoe and somebody that can come in for a game or two and give us a chance, but this cat is nothing special and his numbers against guys who won't even be on an nfl roster come next week are being way overblown.

People keep hyping up his play and his 'mobility', but he has never played a down of football against a defense in the regular season. Let's see him go against a Bill Belechik, Romeo Crennel, Jim Johnson or Greg Williams gameplan.....Bledsoe has been doing his thing for what 14 years now? And after last night I'm sure its back to the 'Romo is better, Bledsoe sucks' crap. Are we as good on offense as the NO and SF game? Who knows...are we as bad on offense as last nights game...highly unlikely.

I think whats amazing is that a few months ago everybody was riding Henson's jock and now that he's history is the Tony Romo show, 2nd coming of Tom Brady or Bret Favre.......:lmao2:

I almost wish that Romo does start in Jacksonville and gets destroyed by their defense so this crap is put to rest....Bledsoe is the man and will be for at LEAST the next 2 seasons, and even Jerry Jones and Parcells have been vocal about this matter. Tony Romo has a great rib and chicken platter but nothing in the way of credibility as a leader in the huddle nor does he deserve anything. He should be grateful he got a raise to just watch a QB like Bledsoe the next few years and hopefully he well get some mop up duty this year.:star:

Whith Romo signed through 2007 it ensures he will be Bledsoe's back up for this year and next.

Barring an extension, next year Bledsoe will finish out his contract along with Parcells.

Who knows, in 2008 Romo might possibly get a big contract and have his chance to be the starter.

Romo playing this year in anything other than mop up or if Bledsoe was injured is not going to happen.

The difference between a starter and a backup is one down of football.

How can a guy be a "good backup" but not capable of starting? Great posture holding a clipboard?

don't be so sure about Tuna... i'd wager he's staying past 2007.

next summer both QBs will have a 1 year contract to compete for a new contract and starter position. we'll also do not require so much roster churn and could trade-up and draft a QB if neither look worth at years end.

we're in great shape here :)

Not that I think Romo should start over Bledsoe, because I don't, but I am a little confused as to why you would say he is not even close?

What has he done in preseason to make you think he is not even close?

I believe he started playing QB as a Junior in HS and he was very successful at a small college program, very good under pressure and good mobility and has been very accurate.

Hasselback was considered to be a very good prospect by his preseason play and that has turned out to be true.

If we do not go deep into the playoffs this year I believe that Romo will get his chance next year. If Romo gets an opportunity to play in a regular season game this year and is successful Bledsoe could very well not be with the team come next year.

I don't know about "not even close."

I think DB is our starter, but Romo looks as poised and talented as some other starting QBs out there.

Losman? Rivers? Frye? Carr? Brooks? Grossman? Simms? Smith?

Not quite sure if any of these guys are clearly better than Moxie-boy.

ESPN and a couple of armchair forum groupies say they are CLEARLY better. throw in backups like Volec and "totally on the decline" (has-beens) like Warner, Favre, Brunnel, etc.

Romo can easily play as good as half these turkeys...

He has made killer mistakes against 3rd string/bubble players, if he was the QB some make him out to be he would have been putting up TD's left and right against these scrubs.

I will agree with one thing, if we fail to make the playoffs or don't get to at least the 2nd round than I could see us moving forward with Romo in 2007, especially if Bledsoe wares down the 2nd half of the year and beyond....but until then I believe it's going to be a special season for #11

I hope Romo turns out to be a great QB. I hope we found someone without a draft pick wasted.

But do not fool yourselves. Romo has really proved nothing. All preseason he only faced first team defenses two quarters, really. And it is also PRESEASON. I do not want to put him down. I am really rooting for him.
BUT if you think preseason is anything like regular season, even first team, you are wrong. Usually teams do not run anything but a basic defense.

But feel free to be outragious. That is why we live in a free country. But you should remember a lot of QBs did great in preseason that never made it in the NFL.

I have nothing against Romo. But lets try to be realistic and wait untill we see him under real fire. Not preseason.

None of us really know how it go in the regular season with Romo, but I'm sure glad that Romo got the snaps he got. He looked good. He made a few mistakes, which is what you would expect. He also made a few terrific plays that not a lot of quarterbacks can make.

After seeing what I've seen in the preseason, I would not bet against him.

3 INT's, including 2 in the red zone, fumbling the ball away, etc against 2nd and 3rd tier players at best...nuff said. Plus his mechanics are still far from polished.

Bledsoe had 1 sack and turnover against STARTERS the whole preseason.
