What effect would a Giants' victory have on the Cowboys?

I was pondering what would be the biggest effect, if any, a Giants' victory in the Super Bowl would have on the Cowboys.

Does it put even more pressure on Wade Phillips or does it have the opposite effect?

Great arguments could certainly be made for both.

If the Giants were to indeed able to win the Super Bowl, some could say that Tom Coughlin won with a team that had more injuries than the Cowboys and with a team that was probably alot less talented. Not to mention, the Dallas Cowboys defeated them twice in the Regular Season.

On the flip side, a Giants' victory could call into question the evaluation of the Giants. It could possibly mean that the Giants were alot better than people thought and one could reduce the blow of a "one and done" Playoff exit by proclaiming that Wade Phillips did lose to the eventual Super Bowl champs.

What say you?

I don't think it changes anything for Dallas but I do think it showed that the Giants are playing better than what many of us gave them credit for. Watching this past game look very similar to what I saw in the Cowboys game. Giants played good mistake free ball and won. As for Wade job I don't think it is in jeopardy I think if one looks at this logically you have to realize Wade has finished his 1st season with the team and had a pretty good season and will enter next season with a team who should be in good shape.

I don't think it changes anything. To over quote Mr. Denny Green...."They are who we thought they were!"

Talent wise, I still believe the Cowboys roster has more talent then the Giants. The Giants got hot and lucky when it counted most. Looking at their 3 play-off wins, the Bucs, the Cowboys and the Packers all beat themselves, while the Giants played just good enough to win. I don't know enough about the Bucs, but both the Packers and Cowboys would beat the Giants 7 out of 10 times.

I hope the media picks the Giants over the Cowboys in the division next year, because this Cowboys team seems to lack motivation and fire....being picked under the Giants may provide some attitude.

I think the Giants match up much better against the Patriots then we do. If they win, it doesn't mean we would have.

I have no prob giving the Giants credit.... BUT... stupid "unforced errors" caused us our game.

With Green Bay it was "Forced Errors" - Favre.

I would say that in order to win you need to be more lucky than good and that is what the Giants are right now.

As far as what effect?
For me - Well I live in NY and it will suck for more than a year here.
For Cowboys - more pressure, MUCH more... not only the pressure of winning one playoff game but now you have to beat the man to be the man.

if the gints win, it will be 2 years in a row we have beaten the SB champs in the regular season (remember the colts last year?).. all it means is the regular season means nothing if you can't bring it in january.. and for now, we cannot.

I agree mistakes cost the Cowboys and the Packers. The lack of mistakes is what helped the Giants. Through out the season the Giants were turning the ball over more than they were creating turnovers but in the post season the Giants avoided those mistakes with 0 turnovers and that goes a long way in winning games. I don't think that is luck that the Giants and Eli have gone out and avoided making critical mistakes that will get you beat.

Agree to disagree. Top of the morning to ya! ;)

The Giants are damn lucky that Crayton dropped a few balls THEN the GW TD. So I majorly disagree with you there. The game was decided in the final seconds. The DB did not make a great play. He had been burnt by his man.

The Giants are lucky that the Brett Favre that I know and love showed up in OT. Of all people we know that Brett is capable of getting them in FG range. Game was over. While I will disagree a little less on this one. Brett blew it.

It takes a bit of luck but in the end the Giants avoided the things that hurt them in the reg season. vs Dallas they did not turn the ball over where as in 2close games they had with us they did turn it over. I think had Dallas gone out and played up to their ability we clearly would have put ourselves in a better position to win but we didn't and in the 2nd half of the game the Giants did a very good job of putting pressure on the Cowboys and we could not take advantage of it. Sorry I'm not a poor sport and I will always give credit where it is due not sit around crying over it or slamming the other team who went out and did the key things they needed to, to winthe game

Nice post.

The game was decided on the 2nd to last play of the game. Period. I am not the only one who thinks so.... nor does it mean that you, me or anyone is a sore loser.

I agree the play was there but did we execute the play? NO simple as that when the Giants needed to make a play they did and when we needed it we didn't. That does not change the facts that what hurt the Giants the most during the season were turnovers and that is what they have avoided doing in the WC game, the divisional game and now the championship game. They have made plays to help them win and just as important they have avoided making the mistakes that will cost you the win.

You cant even chalk that up as lack of execution. Romo executed and Crayton quit. Giants were on the verge of being part of the 3-peat.

Yes you can chalk that up to execution. Execution in a team sports does not mean 1 guy did what he should have but the player on the other end of the played did not. Had Dallas executed the play the Romo would have still put the ball where he did and Crayton would have ran through the pass and hauled it in. 50% in not executing the play.

Winning is a product of ...

1.) talent
2.) coaching
a) head coach (ability to keep the team on track, focused and employ the proper scheme to maximize the talent on the team.
b.) offense
c.) defense
d.) special teams
3.) mental attitude
4.) experience.
5.) health.

Giants vs. Cowboys
1.) advantage - Cowboys
2.) Giants
a.) Coughlin
b.) Cowboys
c.) Giants
d.) Giants
3.) Giants
4.) Giants
5.) Giants (T.O.'s absence hurt us greater than Madison's absence hurt the Giants.) That T.O. injury in Carolina, really, really, hurt this team more than we'd like to acknowledge. And because this team is so T.O.-dependent, unlike the Patriots or even the Giants, it affected us in the long run.
