What element(s) are missing for us to have a dominating defense?

An ILB who can cover. Brooking, lulz.

A DE who can generate pressure. Ratliff is good at NT, Spears is a pretty solid player. But if we could get another DL who could generate pressure too, it'd go a long ways.

A SOLB.

Safeties.

A healthy Newman.

ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitt/Raven/Ten do not have all pros at every position. They have mental toughness to win the game with DEFENSE.

Cowboy D is mentally soft. It gets down on itself and even worse after offense turns the ball over. Great D step up and get a turnover and score. It comes from coaching. ATTITUDE baby!

You just sent me swirling into a state of depression after thinking of who will be providing that attitude boost to our defense from the DC perspective. Please don't do that. I still have visions of two long game ending Baltimore runs dancing all around in my head. :(

Seriously, I really hope Wade asserts himself in the draft, gets some of the right picks made, and turns this defense into an entity that finally lives up to its potential.

sometimes probowl appearance is product of great team defense. these teams have great defense year in and year out with changing parts so your theory doesn't really hold.

We can get a Ray Lewis, healthier Newman....another rushing LB...etc...it's like the Yankees and Redsocks.....Someone else still wins the championship. The guy up in DC tried to buy all Pro...still doing it. Bet you Washington doen't make it to the SB.

Those guys the Ravens,Steelers and Titans get are superb athletes nontheless..it's not like they are doing it with a bunch of scrubs..They just draft supreme talent year after year.

I agree with both of you guys, but I would like a more, vocal leader

Hamlin was supposed to be that guy, but for some reason I haven't seen it and he's ****ing up anyways

it seems like Ware wants to step up and be that guy

We need a big NT. Got to have one to keep teams from ganging up on Ratliff and to rotate him out some.

Rat,Ware and Bradie need to be leaders..If I'm a defensive rook I'm listning to those guys the most.

I hope we get rookies in those 3 respective positions..Ware can teach the OLB..Bradie and Brooking teaches the ILB and Rat teaches the NT/DT..Those are some good mentors right there and people to look up to.

I definitely co-sign on that. JRat is a beast but we could us a true beast to rotate & keep him fresh all season long.

Have Wade coch the defense the whole year and not hand over the reigns? Plus a safety that can cover unlike Keith Davis or a Roy Williams..

[ a free safety that can hit, but also intercept passes like ed reed, polamolo of steelers, etc

and linebackers that make plays, nate newton said that in wades type of defense, the linebackers must make plays

I actually felt for Davis. His recognition had improved. He was typically in the area but the leg injury just made him unable to get there. Those last two games he was out there on only pure intestinal fortitude.

Davis needed to be playing ST or safety exclusively. It's too much punishment for one person to take as a strong safety and a true ST contributor. Our ST was bad anyway so I don't think he should've been on the units.

Woodson did it. Davis was a wedge buster though and I def see what your saying.

Playmaking FS or SS
Legit MLB opposite B. James

Bingo. Bradie James is not a playmaker. He is however, a VERY solid pro who generally does not make mistakes.

We need a playmaking MLB. We get one of those, and a decent safety, and watch out

I did, too. Incredibly game performance from Killa the last part of the year.

I still can't believe the scheme managed to hide him so well, especially with him on one leg.

Yeah they do. There is more pressure on the LBs in Wade's D than in one like Parcells I think. Without the DL covering the OL there are more interior lineman on the LBs.

The linebacker issue goes back to the DL. We need that girth in the middle or we'll continue to see our linebackers disappear. I really do like Ratliff as much as everyone else. He's an exciting guy to watch, but he's not what we truly need at NT.
