Even more then the pessimism I find the never ending bashing of anyone who dares mention the lack of depth here or the unproven xxxx there, etc, to be tiresome and very disrespectful.

Where is it written that what is your defintion of a fan applies across the board to every other individual who thinks of themselves as a fan?

Some folks like to see what they want to see. Some folks like to look at things in a more critical light. Doesn't make them any less of a "fan" just because they can't help but notice the things others don't want to see, or choose not to discuss for their own reasons.

It just my opinion that REAL fans go in with a level of involvement that has their eyes wide open to both the good and bad of their favorite teams.

And every team on the planet has good and bad to talk about.

Here's to keeping it real.....

Everyone invests in a sports club for different reasons...I think it's fine being a homer thinking everything their favorite club does or doesn't do is great just as much as being a realist and pointing out where they truly believe the level of the club is....To each is their own, I guess.

Plus, let's face it, optimism was probably higher for most Cowboy fans the last couple of seasons...There's far less to be optimistic about this season than there has been before...So, if anything, perhaps the Cowboys will surprise everyone.

I think there are lots of holes for the club, holes that largely look unresolved after a few preseason games...I still think they're soft, undisciplined (Penalties are not a contest you should strive to win) & lacking depth...I'm probably most looking forward to seeing some of the young guys step up at this point (Felix, Martellus, Ogletree, Crosslin & Spencer).

Supporting your team/club is a great thing, I support them even if I think they are subpar (Which is right about where I see them now)...I'm not too big on hyping things that don't exist or sidestepping what is actually there...If they do great, awesome...If they don't, there's always next year

This is a very well thought out post.
I think most fans want to believe in their teams. Some however, love to gripe and moan, that's their enjoyment. My dad roots for the Skins every year, and every year tells me every way they stink.

I am a fan I see that part, I get the bad things, but I also see why someone roots and cheers for their team to be in the SB at this point of the year. That's the goal. That's why they play the game(lol).

Could you be Lion's fan and be proud enough to put a 0-16 tatoo on your chest. F that. I want my team to do great. I look at their weaknesses and look at how the FO is accounting for it. If I think they should do something different, than I will express it. If it's a push on what they do, then I will be optimistic that this time it will work.

As for homer Skins fans thinking SB each year, I'm pretty sure I've seen the same type of Cowboys fan.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hello zrnkill.

not to hijack this, but I'm going to an Orioles game, now that's a fanbase(i'm not one) that should have no optimism!

Most of them are wastting it on a #6 WR (Ogletree) who might not make the team because he's, well, a #6 WR.

The last two games of last year gut-punched all the optimism out of me.

I don't forget easy.

They don't embarrass me, if they can give "legitimate" reasons why last years defects won't reappear. It can be a different schedule, changes made in the off-season, or something else substantial. But when it's just a "SB-Bound cuz we are the [team name here]" then it gets monotonous.

Below is the feeling that I get when any fan during the offseason/preseason is dead set on their team winning the Superbowl.

the thing that bothers me is this sense of entitlement.....many act as if though they own the team and are disappointed they arent getting what they paid for...like spoiled kids nothing is ever enough ......
over the years this team has given us more Rings and championship games than any team in the league history(except Steelers).....in the early 90's we had possibly the best team to ever take the field...but after injuries and free agency took its toll it left us with nothing for years ....so Jerry has been trying every way possible to get us back to that state....i believe he now has more or less figured it out....
after searching high and low weve finally found a franchise QB and things are most certainly lookin up for us...this team is talented enough to be champions ....
every one praises Steelers , Titans, Pats for their formula...but dont forget theyve had the same recent let downs we have as well.....2004 Steelers went 15-1...lost in the playoffs.....last season Titans 13-3....lost in first round.....Pats......go undefeated and lose SB.......its gonna happen it takes alot of luck to get to the big dance...
and to those who say "wah wah wah..we havent won a playoff game in 13 years" i say to you that this roster has very little to do with 10 of those seasons.....
to spend the off season ripping the team for its failures is one thing ,but to rip them based on your own uneducated analysis of what you THINK is gonna happen this season is ridiculous.....
to discuss weakness, and potential problems on the team is normal ...but to use every situation to abuse the team you supposedly love is not being a good fan IMO......
for example the owner just spent billions building US the greatest stadium in the world and some can only complain about a video board being too big and too low even though Jerry was abiding by league rules.....and the same people will defend to the death any and everything a T.O. or Pacman will ever do.......
and to say "im just keeping it real" is lame.....real is something that has happened or you can prove NOT your opinion of whats to come....

Just because you are not optimistic doesn't mean that you are a pessimist. I chose to ride the "wait and see" train after years of disappointment started affecting my health.
