i've been saying we are 5 players away and a head coach and dc for awhile.

brooking
newman.....i say this with a heavy heart
james
ball
spencer..dude has skills..but has this no care attitude that needs to be purged..

there are actually more than 5...list yours

Brooking - DONE
James - DONE
Newman - DONE
Kosier - DONE
Ball - Has no business being in the NFL. He ****ing sucks. Get him outta here.

Newman: He's done. I don't even know if he could be relied upon as a spot player. Move on.

Brooking: Been done, cannot be relied upon as a spot player.

James: Done. Thanks for the years of hard work Bradie but no need to go down the Brooking path with you.

Ball: All he will ever be and it isn't that great. Give me a late round draft pick who can potentially develop into a #2 or #3 CB at some time instead of this chump who's at the pinnacle of his career and still hasn't learned to turn his head around to look for the ball.

Ya know, maybe the problem with Ball is that his entire life he's been told to look at the ball. While the coaches mean look at the football, he's under the impression they want him to look at himself. Pretty much the only thing that would explain his reluctance to even get his head turned around.

Spencer: You nailed it lane, his attitude isn't worth his production. I don't care for the guy one bit. He's already said he mailed it in a few times last year, that's enough for me to want him gone. He isn't some great player who will be missed by guys in the locker room. I remember at times last year Jay looked like he was going to break down in the post-games because he was having such a miserable season and cared so much. Spencer, he took games off. He's a bad egg and not even a contract year has elevated his game to the level that we have seen him play at.

That's probably the most frustrating part about Spencer. We've seen him play exceptionally well but most of the time all we get is some half-***** effort.

I'd move on.

Obviously there are other players but these 5 gotta go.

Brooking - obvious
Bradie James - obvious
Terence Newman - obvious
Kenyon Coleman - Got to keep churning; he'll be 33 next year and I think Lissemore will be ready to assume an even larger role.
Phil Costa - I had somewhat an optimistic hope for him as the season went along. However, he just doesn't appear to have the all-around skillet to be a full-time & longterm starter. I don't think he needs to be cut necessarily, but he shouldn't be starting next year.

Newman -Done
Bradie - Done
Brokking - Done
Newman - Done
Coleman - Done

Could have added more. But that's where I'n strartin'

Sorry guys, but we can't get rid of Spencer if there isn't an upgrade. Yeah he has his up and downs, but it's not like he's a scrub. He's a solid starting outside linebacker just not spectacular. Unless he demands an insane amount of money he'll be back. With Spencer the expectations were simply too high. He was never predicted to have a high ceiling. From what I heard and read from the draft scouts everyone thought he'd be solid, but not spectacular. 4-5 sacks and a very good player against the run. If we had a legit pass rusher opposite Ware someone that can get 10 sacks Spencer would look much better.

I haven't seen a name yet that I disagreed with... I was surprised to see somebody say Coleman, but I didn't realize he was that old...

Ball, Brooking, Newman and James seem to be consensus no-brainers... Throw in Kosier and Spencer for good measure...

forgot one...i want that frank walker gone too..

We'll never know if Spencer's replacement would be an upgrade if we never let him walk... Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice...

Who is going to replace Newman? We dont have a competent replacement at this point, but that doesn't mean that we allow mediocrity to takeover the team, just so we can continue this streak of mediocre seasons...

As for Spencer's position, Butler's not quite as good against the run, but he's probably a better pass-rusher... Spencer has not earned a new contract imo...

I'd also add OG Holland to the list.

BTW: About 1-2 weeks ago someone listed which players cost us the most against the cap. At the top of the list (besides Romo & Ware) were the players almost all of us believe should be gone. We certainly will save a lot of cap money once we rid ourselves of these players. Would like keep Brooking around as an asst LB coach cause I think he was a big help in Lee's development; maybe he can do the same for Carter.

I disagree.

You can find a serviceable replacement who won't give questionable effort on any given play.

You may not get a guy who "can" (Spencer can produce much more but doesn't) produce as much but if you can find a guy who will give you everything he has week in and week out, you've upgraded the position.

I'd gladly sacrifice half of Spencer's sacks for a guy who you know will give maximum effort and won't get sucked in, botch a play or just slack.

Consistent moderate effort beats the hell out of sporadic exceptional effort mixed in with piss poor effort.

You can scheme to get a hard working JAG to make plays but no scheme in the world will get a guy who's taking plays off to do anything. If you can't trust that a guy will be where he's supposed to be or give 100% effort, you're basically hamstrung in terms of what you can do with him.

I know some will argue that his sacks are needed when he's the only real pass rush besides Ware but he's nowhere enough of a threat to consistently produce and if where at that point, we might as well find a way to get a pass rush from another position anyway.

Spencer's mentality and open admission of giving less than maximum effort flies in the face of the "process".

I'd be thoroughly surprised if he was given any sort of contract that gives him more than a season to show he can mature and play up to his potential, if he's given a contract at all.

BINGO!

Dallas didn't have a replacement for Colombo when they sent him on his way but everyone in their right mind knew that Colombo could not continue to hamstring the team.

Spencer isn't on that level but I think the same idea can apply.

This....

I agree with Ball, Spencer, Newman, James and Brooking being done. They won't be back. It was a HUGE red flag when Spencer said he mailed games in last year. GET HIM OUTTA HERE. I'm so done with that guy.

I'm nervous about the center position for next year. I'm afraid everyone is putting Kowalski (another undrafted FA) on a pedestal, and we'll anoint him the starter because "the organization is high on him." We need a guaranteed upgrade at the position.

I think Kosier is a possible cut if the organization finds an upgrade.

Here's the lucky 7.

Newman - We need an upgrade. It's obvious.

Ball

F Walker

Brooking - Lost a step or two.

B James

K Coleman - Need an upgrade here.

Costa - Clearly need to do better here, imo.

I'd like to upgrade Holland as well, but it's probably not as high a priority as the other guys.

All of these guys below need to go. I'm also leaving out a few because I don't feel like getting flamed. We have a few Jags that don't pull their weight and are weak minded as well. I know you said 5, but I easily have 12.

Brooking
James
Newman
Ball
Spears
Spencer
Ogletree
Bennett
Coleman
Walker
Kosier
Costa
