What gives me hope for 2014? Ownership of Eagles

Both games. Not just the first where Foles looked extremely ordinary and was knocked woozy. The second game too. A loss in the end- but a game where our decimated defense played pretty darn well after 4 games of ineptitude.

The better team lost... again... but this time there was hope after the game for me at least.

Murray fumbled on the opening drive I believe- an embarrassing fumble- moments earlier he had lowered his shoulder and driven an Eagles defender off the sideline, then a few snaps later turns the ball over in scoring range. The Cowboys held the vaunted Philly attack at bay for more than 3 Quarters, Holloman finally found his NFL legs and played a great game- and then with the game on the line Orton summoned his inner Romo and threw the pick needing only a field goal to send the Boys to the playoffs.

If this defense can play even 20% better, the Cowboys will make the playoffs and make many prognosticators look foolish doing so. The Dallas O-Line will dominate, and Linehan's playcalling will keep teams off-balance with new looks. I don't see the Giants or Commanders as any kind of threat but they are division rivals and will be shown the proper respect by our Cowboys. I think we lose one of those four contests tops. It comes down to our showings vs Philly.

They looked very ordinary against us in both ballgames even with our marginal defensive talent. This year we will be too physical for them on both sides of the ball.

My prediction? I think the Cowboys D continues to make Foles look foolish and improves enough to win the division and get in the dance.

If we can go 5-1 in the division again, or even 4-2, then win the games we should win. Titans, Rams, Texans, Cardinals, Jaguars.
That is 8 or 9 wins right there. Then take the Colts since it's a home game, and are the Colts that invincible that we couldn't win this game. I say they aren't.
That can be 9 or 10 wins. And should win the division for us.

I know someone will say IF's...blah blah, blah, but it is possible. more so than most think.

I think all 4 teams in the NFCE will be improved and would be very shocked if Dallas could go 5-1 again.
Hopefully outside the division well win a couple that no one expects us to.

and think we will. I think we're going to give SF all it can handle right off the bat. They struggle with teams with excellent offensive balance and good rcv'g targets. We have both.

The 'inner Romo' comment aside...what gives me some hope for the upcoming season.....

- The team lost (3) 1 point games, (1) 2 point game, and (1) 3 point game last season. That's 5 losses by a combined 8 points. And that was with the worst defense in franchise history...and one of the worst in NFL history.

- Where the defense really needs to show up at least a bit...is vs. the more potent offensive teams. Giving the offense any additional possessions (while keeping opposing offenses off of the field), could be critical ala the Denver game. The defense was destroyed by the Broncos, Saints, Bears, and Lions last season. In those types of games, most defenses are going to give up some yards and points, but they can't give up an NFL record 40 1st downs (Saints), or not force a single punt (Broncos/Bears), or give up an NFL record for receiving yards & let a team so easily drive 90+ yards for a TD with no timeouts & 1 minute remaining (Lions). The defense did indeed do a good job against the Eagles twice...so they are capable of making some plays vs. a higher octane offense that features multiple solid options.

- The Cowboys have the potential to have one of the best O-Lines in the NFL. Hopefully, that will also mean more of a commitment to the running game...which could take some pressure off both Romo and the defense.

I don't recall Orton driving us down for a winning TD pass with only one minute remaining, I must've missed that part of the game. :D

Other then that I pretty much agree, just don't really like how fans post stuff like that. It gets tiring just hearing it from the media(yet alone from other fans). I noticed you said you were kinda joking, but believe me at times it's hard to decipher if people are actually serious. You'd be surprised with the stuff fans can come up with in regards to Romo.

Is this something we should be proud of? Last minute TD against one of the worst teams in the NFL? We should have decimated this team. We barely won.

Division games are never that simple...that was an excellent showing of how focused this team was in a game we needed to win.

You are so right. It's just like the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and their NFC West divisional doormat 7-9 St. Louis Rams. Sure, the Seahawks humiliated the Denver Broncos last February but they barely beat the Rams 14-9 in Week 8. What kind of fan is proud of wins like that? Sickening. And another thing...

Excuse me for a sec.

SHUT UP 12TH MAN! SHEESH! You guys are loud.

Okay. Where was I? Oh yeah. Wins suck.

I see a strong likelihood for this Cowboys' team to have dogfights with virtually every one of our division rivals. Right now, there's a competitive equality within the Eastern Division that's almost scary for every individual team. Here's hoping our "D" is up to it to the extent that an excessive amount of pressure won't be put upon the offense to win. This year's defense really needs to improve a lot.

I think we will be in almost every game. We are still a 6-10 to 10-6 team.

Still doesn't change the fact that the Commanders were one of the worst teams in the NFL. Nothing impressive about beating a downright awful team that had nothing to gain.... and we barely won. And the Rams were 100x better than the Commanders. We play in one of the worst divisions in the NFL. Rams play in the best one.

You are in for a rude awakening if you think the Commanders are as bad as you think...take the glasses off man.
