What Goose Gooselin said about backup QB for Cowboys, Luke McCown

Ok for those of you wanting Beck as a backup QB,

Personally what I saw from Beck, he just didnt have it, and Goose the Gooselin whom is well noted for knowing about football, had this to say about your backup need at QB.

Goose said, the person he would like for the Cowboys to go get is Luke McCown. He said, look at what Walsh did with Steve Young, Young was on a bad team, and Young played badly sometimes too. But McCown has done decent from where he has played, and if given opportunity he could become better. Goose went on to say, if he was the Cowboys, he would do like Green Bay does and Ron Wolf did. He would draft a QB every year.

The Packers traded 2 of those backup QBs for high future draft choice. And if you hit on one by drafting one every year, then you have your future QB being groomed.

thats what I would do if i was the Cowboys, go get Luke McCown, let him push Romo, because he does have experience. Then draft a QB this year in 5th to 7th round, and groom a young QB.

I agree, McCown is the kind of guy we need. Still pretty young, good athlete, good arm, has a little experience... Not perfect, but at least he has some ability. Much better than trading a starting corner. :)

I am laughing as well every time I read fans bowing and scraping at the feet of Gosselin like he is some sort of football guru. He's a sportwriter. His prowess lies in the fact he has good information very close to the draft about what teams are interested in whom. But this assumption that he is "well noted for knowing about football" is funny and has little basis in reality. He should be noted for having good information.

McCown is light years ahead of Beck and much more suited to be an NFL backup.

McCown is also a Texas kid.

He is raw still as he hasn't played much but he had a 91 QB rating in 2007 in 5 games for the Bucs.

Goose said, the person he would like for the Cowboys to go get is Luke McCown. He said, look at what Walsh did with Steve Young, Young was on a bad team, and Young played badly sometimes too.

So Gosselin's rationale is because Bill Walsh had success with a talented player like Steve Young, we should go after McCown? Where is this hard-hitting football knowledge that he is going to drop on us any minute?

But McCown has done decent from where he has played, and if given opportunity he could become better.

Super. So can a lot of backups and third stringers.

That is a great strategy and it paid off for Wolf.

Should we follow it? Yes, in a perfect world, we should. That does not mean we will have the same measure of success.

Those Green Bay teams had the likes of Jon Gruden, Mike Holmgren and Andy Reid involved in the development of their quarterbacks.

We have--Wade Wilson.

I think there is a little problem here.

thats what I would do if i was the Cowboys, go get Luke McCown, let him push Romo, because he does have experience. Then draft a QB this year in 5th to 7th round, and groom a young QB.

I would have preferred his brother over him. More mobile, tougher and looks like he has a stronger arm.

well i am just laughing at the wording of it.

i like gosselins opinions of offseason happenings like the draft and free agency. his actual predictions and stuff really dont do anything for me.

But

Goose the gosselin whom is well noted for knowing about football is simply hysterical.

and again I am not jumping joe, because I know as he has said he is typing fast trying to get down what he hears on the radio, and I appreciate it.

its just goose the gosselin is killing me.

understand guys, no problem, i was typing fast

by what i meant about goose, the goose when he gets information, he calls the 31 other teams, gets their thoughts, ideals,

just like in the draft, the goose calls all other 31 teams general managers, coaches, draft personnel, and puts his draft and top 100 players.

if you look at his draft history and top players in top 100, he generally is right.

so, its just not him with these ideals, he talks to other media, general managers, coaches and gets their input

my main point, to me, is like the goose said, get a QB that has some experience in playing, that has seen defenses, and offenses, has a pretty good arm, athletic, etc,

to me, beck just hasnt done that yet, and what im suspicious of now, the main person that i know of that is high on beck is garrett, since he came from the dolphins.

and garretts offense, just didnt impress me last year, teams caught up to him and he didnt adapt.

so i want a qb that is proven and can push romo

Haven't those McCown boys always been the ultimate teases?? You heard Josh and Luke McCown every offseason there for a while, but they've still never done anything.

Wonder if Cade has anything left in the tank.

I believe that he is not of the Clan McCown. Cade McNown from UCLA, correct?

I personally like both McCown brothers because they grew up as Cowboys fans. Give me both of them as backups to Tony and I'd be happy.

Of the two I would take Josh over Luke because he has more experience. Like you said either would be a decent back up.

Me, I see Josh as the guy that you could reasonable have as a #2. Luke is more of a developmental guy who I'd want as a #3.

Either is an upgrade over our current backups.
