I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 for $218 + $1.94 for shipping(Fedex) on-line at Walmart. This is the first time I bought one. My wife got tired of me getting lost and forced me to buy one.:)

Is the Garmin 760 a good system? Was $218 a good price?

I have a TomTom that I got for Christmas and I love it. I don't know the exact model, but its a good one. I work for a courier company part-time so I use it every day. I think having one is a must if you don't have a good sense of direction (like me).

I started off with a Garmin Nuvi 260W,which has 'text-to-speech',which to an old fart like me,is critical. I bought my mother-in-law a Magellan 4250,which is also text to speech. Long story short,we took a trip to Chicago in December for a Navy basic graduation, and the plan was to use her GPS while we were there, and then give it to her before she left to go back to Texas. We used it exclusively, and when she got home and used it for a few weeks, the battery died on her,so I told her to send it back to me and I would get it fixed. There wasn't anything wrong with it,and I sent her my Garmin, and kept hers because I like it a whole lot more.

Garmin Nuvi is the best. Wife has a Tom Tom and an I-phone but my Garmin owns them both. One thing with a GPS unit you have to understand, they are only 98% accurate. Roads change, satelites get out of position. You have to use common sense sometimes and not turn into a driveway, or an address might be off sometimes by 100 feet. More often than not it will get you in the general vicinity, the rest is up to you....

I now use a MyGig system that came in my car. I'm not really sure who the actual manufacturer is. Before that I used Garmin since my brother used to work for them and he had all sorts of prototype models. I bought a Tom Tom once for one trip and it was awful. It didn't have a clue where anything was and got confused between right and left turns. It even said turn left when the picture showed a right turn. Thankfully I mostly know my way around the Dallas area pretty good so it wasn't that big of a deal, but finding specific restaurants or something small like that was a pain.

like Jon88 got a TomTom for Christmas, and it rocks

don't know what the other guys are talking about

I've seen the Garmin, and it looks kind of cheap compared to the sleekness of the TomTom

I have a Garmin and I like it. It is not the top of the line but it serves the purpose of why I got it

I use a Nuvi and it is one of the best buys I ever made.

And yes, you got a good value. It will become a greater value the more you use it.

Regardless of what you use,it will be obsolete in a matter of months as new toys with new tricks come out. However, once you become used to using a GPS on trips, you'll wonder how you got along without it.

TomTom is the best out there. I've seen other brands that my coworkers own and they really don't have the same quality or ease of use. TomTom is the way to go.

yeah, the alternative route feature is awesome, it gets you away from toll booths, accidents

even tells you where cameras are, not that I go above the posted speed limit

They could have used a better name but they make a great product. If I owned a delivery company I would buy one for every vehicle.
