What happened to Anthony Fasano?

Actually -- Fasano's pass catching procduction is pretty close to that of the 3 TEs ahead of him -- so as far as rookie TEs go - his productivity as a receiver is on target.

That may be true but I'm sure we could have signed any FA TE and had him catch 14 passes for 126 yards and block the same.

PLUS we could have got a better player at a position that we really needed.

Like Ryan Hannam?

What TEs were out there that we missed on? I'd really like to know.

I'm not talking about missing out on a TE.

I'm talking about missing out on players like Devin Hester or a Maurice Drew.

Either could have been our Kickoff or Punt returner that we wasted a 4 rounder on to take Skyler Green.

Neither would have been expected to start and would have had time to learn their Pro Positions while making a difference on Special Teams.

the ones screaming for McNeal would have also been the SAME ones screaming if he had to suddenly retire. With the Rogers situation so close to mind, there was NO way we would pick McNeal. A whole lot of teams felt the same way. there are RISKS and then there are RISKS. Picking someone who can at ANY TIME have to retire is not something to risk a second rd pick on. Maybe a late 3rd- MAYBE.

Drew is a turd who participated in the hate crime that got Ricky Manning suspended for a game -- Bill has emphasized drafting high character players and certainly would not have taken Drew.

Hester is a great ST player -- but everyone was shocked that he went that high.

You also forget that by taking Fasano, we acquired the pick we used to take McQuistan and a pick we used to move up and get Watkins.

Same as Fasano.:)

Watkins may I say may be the saving grace here.

Great analogy.

I know that everyone is unhappy with everything right now, but I don't think Fasano was the problem.

It kind of looked to me like Dallas wanted to run a 2 TE base set. I've got no problem with that. Some very good offenses have done that. And I didn't have a problem with Fasano being drafted in the second round. That's where he should have gone.

It looked to me like Dallas simply decided they did better when they had a truw FB in the game. For about 2 weeks, immediately after Hoyte became the FB, they were right. After that, I thought everyone tailed off again.

Personally, I would have liked to have seen more of Fasano. Instead of just lining up the TEs outside of the tackles, I wish we could have seen more of Indy's formations. I wanted to see Witten out wide more with Fasano lining up as a more traditional TE. I thought there were some good opportunities for mismatches there.

Put another way, I don't think Hoyte or Polite were scaring anyone much.

Who made a big catch in the upset of the Colts? That's right Fasano did.

Actually I think Bill said in a PC that we couldn't run it b/c we only had 2 good TEs -- and you need at least 3 to do it. Hannam and Pierce going down really killed the 2 TE set. Keep in mind in TC we were so deep at TE that we traded Sean Ryan.

No question, I think that really hurt too. The team tried Tony Curtis, maybe even Andy Thorn, but they were limited there.

Does anyone actually know the latest on Hannam? I had hopes that he would help the running game before his injury.

Regardless, I would still like to see a little more of Fasano next year. I still think he's a better player than either Hoyte or Polite.

I wonder how PO'ed people would actually be if we did draft McNeil at LT, only to have him not see the field for a single play all year long?

"Wasted draft pick!"

"Bill busts in the second round again!"

"Flozell's getting beat like a rented mule by no-names (even though he's shutting down stars) and this kid can't beat him out - Bill CANNOT evaluate Olinemen!"

Another sad part to Fassano is that Dallas had a chance at McNeil the tackle from Auburn that the Chargers picked, who had an all-rookie year.

We seem to pass on good players that eventually end up in San Diego.

Be expecting a FB in the 2nd round this year -- I'm sure Parcells will have his reasons.
Don't forget the odd special teams pick. Why mess with tradition?

Well he is a quality backup.

Imagine if Witten goes down. Not many teams in the league have the luxury of a backup pass catching TE.

Sometimes I wonder if Parcells is even organized.
1. Played 4-3 defense in first 2 seasons then changed to a 3-4. ??
2. Drafted a 3-4 OLB, moved him to ILB, then moved him back to OLB.
3. Drafted a 2nd round TE (we had a probowler, all you needed was a 5th round TE to compliment Witten) to run the 2 TE set, then abandoned it.
4. Play a 3-4 defense, then later on he switched to a 4-3 in one game (actually worked) then switch back to a 3-4 in the playoff game with Seattle.

Parcells really needs a plan...

It's a stretch, but you could also make the argument that the 2-TE offense was going to be designed around protecting Bledsoe and it disappeared around the time that Romo took the stage.

You said it was a stretch, but if that was the reason, I'd be ready to fire everyone associated with that draft selection. If you want to protect your QB, it would make more sense to select a freakin' OT or OG that early in round 2 instead of another TE!!!!! Might even help the running game.

you guys are forgetting that the reason we drafted Fasano was to run the 2-TE set as a wrinkle to generate more confusion for the opposing D

His plan should be retirement.
