What happened to Greg Ellis?

Just curious, he was off most Cowboy fans' radar after he went to the Raiders in '09.

He actually had a pretty decent season after making the move back to a 43 DE (7 sacks, 2 FF in 14 games) in '09.

Did he officially retire, or did he just not garner any attention after being released from the Raiders?

My guess, he wasn't worth the vet minimum. But he might have been worth something lower that he would have played for but couldn't because of the CBA.

Kinda feel sorry for the guy. He will forever be the player linked to us not getting Randy Moss. Good player, but probably picked too soon in the first round.

Never played to an elite level that came with his draft status. He reminded me a lot of Jim Jeffcoat.

Jim Jeffcoat produced more longer.

What don't you like about Ellis. He was a cry baby but he was a solid player and contributor during his time.

He had a nice career, but I always had mixed feelings about the guy. He spent 11 years here, and despite the fact that guys who stay that long with one team usually become fan favorites, it was never the case with Greg. Which is weird, because it's not like he was a bad player.

I thought he was a decent player but he cried way too much. Like I said when he left, no big loss...

I know you were asking him, but if I had a choice between the two guys I would go with Jeffcoat without any hesitation. Jeffcoat was the better player and better leader/locker room guy.

From what I remember last year it came out that he was interested in coming back to the Cowboys but they passed.

He has not retired, but no one has shown any interest in him since he was let go by the Raiders and I think he pretty much knows the door is almost completely closed.

Will Tyron Smith be as good or better an OT than Ellis was a DE for the Cowboys? If he isn't, would you consider Smith a bust?

I believe Ellis was the 8th pick in the draft just like Smith.

Smith was 9th.

I think it's downright stupid people are already talking about bust.

I agree. Completely.

The guy whined a lot but who cares. He played hard, produced, and was a good player. I was never upset about having Greg on the Cowboys.

Completely agree as well. The hate he gets here is just surprising. He dealt with multiple serious injuries and then comes back and is productive. Good player.
