What happened to the Cowboys Hall of Fame idea?

I remember reading that there would be shops, residences, restaurants, hotel space and a team Hall of Fame adjacent to Cowboys Stadium. What became of all of that? Does it tie into the naming rights issue? If the Cowboys want another Super Bowl at the stadium, it might help to make the surrounding area more appealing.

Would that be like the Ring of Honor, just with more people?

I'm not sure. I think it's more of a Cowboys history/memorabilia or like that traveling Cowboys Experience thingy.

That would make sense; the Ring of Honor is just a name while this hall of fame could go into far more detail about each player's careers.

It has something to do with Tom Hicks maybe? I could be way off here, but I believe he still owns alot of the land around Rangers Ballpark and Cowboy Stadium. I do know Hicks has been promising to develop that land around Rangers Ballpark for years. Way before Cowboy Stadium was ever considered. As you know, Hicks would lose alot of money in the Liverpool soccer team fiasco and have to sell the Rangers and Stars, but for some reason he held on to some of the land. I do know there was an issue with parking because of the Hick's land issue. Saying all that, I could be totally off base here.

The Packers have their own hall of fame attached to the stadium and it is very popular. I have been there several times and I am not even a Packer fan. It is neat to see some the of the history of the Packers. I don't see any reason why the same could not hold true for the Cowboys.

The naming rights aspect of the stadium has really blown up in Jerry and Stephen's face.

They thought they were going to get close to $1 billion for it, and after the market crash of 2008, companies are not interested in overpaying for those rights anymore.

Jones seems to be trying to wait it out, but even when (if) the rebound occurs, I think a change in philosophy has occurred. That well ain't too deep.

And yes, I think the other development was tied to the naming rights.

Jerry will end up naming it after himself.

Some of the ideas were when it was gonna be built in dallas. It was suppose to be hotels, flag football fields, basbeball fields and the whole works. I'm curious what the plans are for the 2 big blank squars on the stadium that were suppse tp be big screen that showed the game on the outside. Kind of a eye soar.

I don't think they were going to show live games. There's surely an NFL rule against that. But there would've been plenty of highlights from past games and advertisements, etc. It's a shame they're not in use.

I'm just speculating that they don't want teams broadcasting live games outside the stadiums. People might opt to watch from the parking lot instead of buying tickets or subscribing to NFL ST.

Has anyone seen pics of the Vikings new stadium? Lets just say they copied off the Cowboys glass end zones. Really copied. Other than that it looks nothing like Cowboys Stadium.

Ahh gotcha. You might be right. They might had only plnned to show highlights and such. I heard they never wnt through with cause the city said no cause they were afraid of traffic jams from people stopping and checking it out. Don't know if that is true or not. They need to take them down if they aren't gonna use them

Since taking over the Dallas Cowboys, owner and general manager Jerry Jones has monetized just about everything surrounding his organization. However, the item that could bring Jones the most money is still for sale: naming rights.

But does it matter?

The franchise was recently valued at $2.1 billion, according to Forbes Magazine's rankings. What the Cowboys take in from sponsors like Ford, AT&T, Miller and Pepsi is most likely worth more than most stadium naming rights’ deals.

There’s a cache to Cowboys Stadium now. The same way there is a cache to Yankee Stadium.

“I have always said that unless we are ready in the right way with the right partner, then Cowboys Stadium is the way we want it. Never had naming rights on Texas Stadium either, because I wanted the focus to be more on the Cowboys and the team. ... I must say to you that I feel good that our stadium and the comments that will be made about the stadium, the visual images of the stadium, that it will be referred to as Cowboys Stadium.”

Mamacita...

At one time, the Hall that you were referring to was called the Hall of Honor or something along those lines. It was postponed due to the overall stadium building effort.

Haven't heard anything about it in awhile, but I'll do a quickie search to see if there's been anything written recently.
