What has John Phillips been doing?

With all the talk about what to do at #3 WR, what is the status of John Phillips? I have not heard much about him but am hoping he solidifies the #2 TE spot. I say that because the use of a 2-TE set, with 1 or 2 WRs is one good way to nullify the 3rd WR debate. Does anyone know how well, or not well, John Phillips is doing?

He's been being really mediocre. Not good, not bad.
Yep. He's an average TE, and going to continue being that way.

sounds like he lost his job to Hanna.

I tried telling some folks Phillips isn't all he's cracked up to be around here. Maybe now some will get it

Hanna was practicing with the 1s today..it was reported Hanna will play w the ones tomorrow, in 2 TE sets

I think Phillips has been held out for some injury but I don't know what. I don't recall seeing him at all when I visited camp last week. Witten, Szcerba, Hanna & even Albright one day. Maybe forgetting another UDFA. But I did not see Phillips.

I did see Hanna seemingly getting his tires kicked pretty good to see what he could do. Disproportionate reps it seemed in his favor.

People were on Phillips jock because he wasn't Bennett.

Therefore, he had to be better.

I'll be watching him closely. It would be a real boon to the offense if he can be a factor this year.

He's actually been getting good reports on his blocking this week. Which is something you never saw at Oklahoma.

I saw him Saturday at training camp. He was rehabbing on the far field and running patterns near full speed. He should be back soon.

Not sure why there is such negativity towards this guy, but the reports I've read have been positive...except for his injury concerns...which are real. When he's playing, however, he seems to be better than "mediocre".

Yeah I think there is some truth to this statement. I saw someonee the other day say Phillips is a far superior player to Bennett? Based on what, who knows. Philllips is an average player who will be lucky to catch 30 balls this year IMO.

Do we know what injury he is rehabbing now? Is it the same surgically repaired knee or some other injury? If anyone knows please post.

I agree. I like Phillips. He seems to make the pays when they count. There are plenty of players who don't pratice well but ball out on Sundays.

In Phillips case, he has shown up in games and in practice. He may be down now due to injury, but I don't count him out. If he can come back healthy I trust he will be a baller and a trusted go to guy for Romo. The last playoff game where Romo threw hin a TD when he replaced Bennett (who Romo never even bother to look at) proves that.
