if texans want to play hard ball on the trade, the cowboys can always decide to hold off releasing romo today. now that osweiller is released, what would the texans do?

particularly interested in what people in houston are hearing...

Exactly what I'm thinking. We have absolutely no reason to rush on a decision with Tony. If nobody wants to trade for him right now, then hold on to him. Because as some point, desperation will set in for some team who is close, but needs a QB. And they will blink and give us what we want.

if we need cap space, we can easily restructure dez for 8M and tcrawford for 5M -> another 13M of space.
i think we have restructured tcrawford at least once before.

we had a reason to rush - make a deadline to draw out the bids.
but we can always change our mind.
after texans played their hand, there would be pandemonium in houston if they got caught with their pants down.

the texans also showed their hand.
they are willing to sacrifice a 2nd round pick to dump osweiller.
what is a 1st round pick to secure romo?
salvage has played in less than 5 games in his career?
not what they go to the playoffs with.

Judging by what Romo said I think he's been told he's gone.

romo knows he is gone, but what is the difference in today vs. april 1st.
we have enough cap flexibility to restructure dez and tcrawford if we need cap space.

pretty sure HOU did this with Dallas and Houston in agreement on the Romo trade. Im sure we havent heard anything of a trade yet because Houston is probably working with Romo on a new contract.

Would Romo restructure/ redo his contract to facilitate a trade or what? How would that work? A few months ago on "the break" it was mentioned that this scenario would be the best for the cowboys because it would free up a lot more money. Any of you cap gurus know how much and what portion of a cap hit is dallas obligated to pay no matter what type of trade scenario happens?

He sure acted like it...but also, he's sitting at home like the rest of us, so he may not know what's all going on either

that may well be the case.

if that is the case, we likely got a 1st round pick.
since they were willing to dump a 2nd round pick to clear space, there should be no problem with a 1st round pick to get romo.

they pick #25 this year.
may be we could get a WR or CB out of this also...

no guru, but i dont think he can reduce the cowboys' dead money since the signing bonus and restructuring bonus have already been paid.
it would be for his new team?

Romo wont get a RD1 pick. Most likely the pick HOU got from CLE. Which is the first pick of the 4th round
