Instead of Jerry. It almost happened:

I know many Mav fans on this site hate the Lakers, but since Dr. Buss bought the Lakers in 1979, the Lakers have the most championships (11) in NBA history. He's a great owner, who would not masquerade as a GM, and he would not have fired Jimmy. IJS

Thoughts?

My thought is i cant unhear this so now it will be mental torture...until i can forget it. Reality is there may not have been Jimmy if not for Jerry he came here because of Jones...so who knows how it would've gone..maybe we dont win the 90's SB but also dont have a 26 year drought?

Guess we'll never know, but I'd take nearly alternate reality where Jerry Jones wasn't the GM.

The fact that the Jones family uses the franchise as their own nepotistic play toy is getting so tiresome.

Who knows maybe those 3 90s championships don't even happen. Jerry made the right moves back then by letting Jimmy handle everything.

He would have hired Pat Riley to coach, and they would have installed a controlled fast break offense. Kareem would have been the top red zone target, and Shaq would been a DT blocking every pass thrown over the middle.

The Lakers really aren't much different, though. The Buss family still owns a controlling interest in the Lakers and are involved in operations.

My thoughts are any competent GM would have made that Herschel Walker deal with Minnesota. Then the owner would have stayed out of the way of his staff.

As painful as it still is, a competent GM would have drafted Randy Moss too. Playmaker as WR2 extends their championship window for several years.

To be honest thats hard to say, without Jones its hard to see Jimmy here. Without Jimmy the new regime may have built around Walker because he was still our best player.

True, but the Lakers (and Buss family) are, and never have been, afraid of seeking success. They are active in the trade markets and willingly sign talented free agents, and prior to Dr. Buss' death were one of the best run organizations in the league.

Well its good and bad.
The good:
Jerry brought us Jimmy, which got us 3 super bowls.
The bad, Jerry thinks he can GM which has given us 27 years without a nfcc appearance.

He probably would not have hired Jimmy either.

The Lakers have always had strong GM's though (not the owner or a family member), and strong coaches that have considerable say so in the organization
