What If Garrett Inherited A Playoff Team?

Franchise QB in his prime.

Dominant pass rusher in his prime.

Future HOF TE in his prime.

Pro Bowl WR.

First round WR with lots of potential.

There were plenty of good pieces to build upon...other coaches would kill to inherit players like that.

And the minor detail of QB injury

Dallas was 1-5 before Romo got hurt that year. The real issue was that team quit on Wade. They managed to finish 5-3 under Garrett that year and were a Roy Williams fumble on Thanksgiving and a missed PAT at Arizona away from going 7-1.

Not sticking up for Garrett, just stating the facts. The 2010 Cowboys were an underachieving lot that only showed improvement once their job security became an issue after Phillips got canned.

How many more "dump JG" threads do we have to endure until kick-off. Hey, OP we get it.

Mods, merge with the other 1000 just like it

An OL that was old and needed to be completely rebuilt. A defense that needed to be mostly rebuilt.

Numerous awful contracts that led to an insane amount of dead money.

This thread is supposed to be answer to the thread claiming Pederson inherited a worse team than Garrett and you’re helping this thread fall flat on his face. The team Garrett inherited turned over 90 percent of the roster during he first two years.

OK so we should have given him 4 years to rebuild then.

Here we are at 8 and no consistency and one playoff win. Mediocrity.

Anyone claiming that Garrett inherited a weak team is simply biased. The key pieces of the solid core that Parcells had built were all there (Romo, Ware, Witten, etc.). If you had to rate the roster scenario on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of what the typical new HC walks into, Garrett's 2010 situation had to be a 6/7 at minimum. Walking into a franchise QB alone is worth at least 5 of the 10 points.

Now, if we want to include the negative effect of Jerry that's another topic entirely.

This might make us feel better: Nick Foles has more playoff wins in one month than the Commanders have had since 1992.
