That team wasn't good enough to make it very far in the playoffs... This team hasn't really been good enough in general.

We were a pretty good team in 2007, we were probably even better in 2009 (overall).

But consistently we've allowed weaknesses to go overlooked and it usually comes back to bite us.

Considering we ended up beating both teams that were in the Super Bowl that year (Chicago and the previously undefeated Colts), I think we could've made some noise.

Ditto and we beat Chicago week 3 the following season

Our D was terrible.

There was more than 2 minutes left in the game.

Seattle would have simply drove down the field, and kicked a winning FG.

That's why I wished they would have just ran barber on 4th down and went up a TD

Not for nothing, but there are a lot of "what ifs" with the history of our team.

What if Jackie Smith caught that touchdown against Pittsburgh?

What if Drew Pearson didn't catch that hail marry pass against Minnesota?

What if Dwight Clark didn't make the so called "catch"?

Just saying, to name a few.

That been my take on it ever since it happened ...but people just find it easier to blame Romo.

What if the refs had given us the spot on Witten's first down reception plays before? We'd have run down the clock and likely scored at the end of regulation to win it. That reversed first down bothered me more than the bobbled snap.

Good point.

And what if Barber got stuffed on 4th down? Such a defeat would have been just as infamous for a poor coaching decision as it was for Romo's bobbled snap.

I remember saying to myself that on 4th down we should have just went for it with barber up the middle. That way we would have been up a TD instead of a field goal. I remember thinking even if we hit the field goal there was no doubt in my mind that Seattle would just drive down the field in 4 plays and kick the game winning field goal winning 24-23.

This is what most mediots forget. Josh Brown was kicking 50+yd field goals all year. The bigger question is, what would have happened if Witten would have scored. I think that was the bigger disappointment of that drive. It wasn't as memorable (or unmemorable) of a play as Romo's bobbled snap. But I think it was much bigger in the scope of the game.

Another thing that irks me; the Cowboys would have won a road playoff game.

It's been 20 years since Dallas last won a road playoff game - the 1992 NFC title game against San Francisco. Hard to think that back then, the Cowboys had only 2 Super Bowl championships.

It's been THAT LONG.

Brutal anyway.
It was a non-QB play but he still get's grief as a QB for muffing the slippery ball (that didn't sound right) as a Special Teams player.

We had two playoff losses decided by inches (that one and the 2007 Giants loss). That puts us at 3-1 with more games to play instead of 1-3 and this lable of having a losing playoff record.
Oh well.
Need to look forward.

On that topic, but not to derail the thread, we could have witnessed two glorious conference championship rivalry games in 2007: AFC Championship could have been Colts-Patriots and NFC Championship could have been Cowboys-Packers.

Instead, we get to watch Chargers-Patriots and Giants-Packers. Just not the same.

It would have resulted in one less thing his critics would have mentioned about him on a daily basis.

Exactly! Even if we would have made the FG, I am convinced that Seattle would STILL have won that game.

Far from losing the game, Romo's bobbled snap nearly won it for us. If he could have scored or gotten the first down, we probably would have won the game. The FG wasn't going to win it for us.

Championship.

...............the Cowboys would have defeated the Bears, Saints (or Eagles,) and Colts (or Patriots, or Chargers) all in that year's playoffs just because they eked by the Seahawks?

while we are playing this....what if Joe Montana doesn't throw "the catch" that really what I want to know.
