What if Witten has second thoughts?

My first thought is, what does you retiring and thinking about coaching again have to do with your question.

My second thought is, I don't think Witten can do that. There has to be a protection against a guy using retirement as a way to break his contract so he can go to another team.

My third thought is I seriously doubt Witten would do that even if he could.

It means I know what he is going through. Duh!

I retired last year and I am thinking about coaching again. What if Witten wakes up on Monday and says, ****, I wanna play. Do the Cowboys take him back? Or, does he go team up with Gronk?
Something tells me Witten really is for real, for real done. He is the consummate professional and I honestly believe he realizes at this point he may just be getting in the way.

But, hey, if you are thinking of taking up coaching again, you might send in a letter to Jerry...they may be looking for a new coach by no later than midseason...just saying...

If there was possibly a scenario where Witten would un-retire, it would likely only be 1) if the Cowboys lost 2 or more tight-ends during the season for the remainder of the season, 2) the Cowboys were having a great season and 3) the Cowboys went to Witten and asked him to un-retire. All of those situations would have to happen I would think.

That said, people and the media will speculate just like they did with Romo and you see how that played out. When a younger player retires early, it is common for them to miss the game and decide to go back. Once you are at the end of your career though, going back is a lot harder, both mentally and physically.

In any case, being an old NFL football player is a lot harder, especially physically, than being an old coach.

If anything, I expected Witten to go into coaching, not the broadcast booth. I still think he will end up coaching at some point.

He’s retired, not a free agent
If he came back, which he’s not, it would be to the cowboys

He’s coming back to replace Garrett right after they draft Jerry’s grandson lol
Seriously though I’d love to see him coach one day

So, you're saying I'm not a consummate professional?

The wheels were falling off when he was 100% dedicated to playing and keeping himself in playing shape. If he took a year off an got in worse shape, yikes. I don't think he'd be any use on the field. But if he plays for league-minimum, I can find use for him.

At that point, I'd just want him in the building as more of a mascot or a player-coach to set a good example in the gym or film room.

Basically, I'd want to be able to acquire a new young TE and tie him to Witten for a year, the way you might tie a stubborn horse to a donkey to teach them to fall in line.

(If he sucks at television, which is possible......)

No at all. But I do have serious doubts about your abilities to pronounce "consummate," so it's a good thing this is a written conversation. :muttley:

not with that type of Press conference..different than Farve etc..you can tell it was time..

1. He won’t.
2. If he did come back, what team would want him at an advanced age? He’s not getting any better.
3. If Witten wanted to chase a ring, he’d have hightailed it many years ago.

Doesn't consummate mean Garrett Sucks?
