What is going on with Bruce Carter?

ah i think this was just his 7th game to ever play in. He did ok, not great but the guy is a rookie that had no offseason, training camp, and only 8 weeks of practice. Give him a year.

Pretty much playing special teams right now. He is not going to get much of a chance until next season.

Hate him for not playing, hate him if he plays and messes up.. sigh. Why does everyone expect a rookie who missed OTA's, Training camp, all of preseason, and has only played a few games this year... to explode with crazy production? He did just come off a major injury.

I'm no sure he'll even be ready next season to start in this defense. At least in the beginning of the year.

He'll be ready. I would be shocked if he wasnt starting beside Lee game 1.

Because in Madden players are always ready to play as soon as you hit the play button. :laugh2:

Kid is coming off a big injury with no camp, no pre season at a level of play that is unlike any other it was not likely he would have an impact on defense. Coaches have him working special teams and this coming off season he will get a chance to get himself physically ready and have a camp to prepare himself

I think you have to look at a guy like Amukamara for NYG. He missed all of training camp, and the first half of the season. If not for injury, he wouldn't be playing much at all at this point. But he is, and he's getting lit up. Now, there is of course the question of whether he's all that good or not, but I think you'd be seeing the same thing if Carter were out there - a lot of mixups in communication, and a lot of missed assignments because he doesn't really know what he's doing yet.

Shoot, we have long time vets out there who can't figure out RR's schemes, let alone a rookie who had no offseason, and missed the first six games.

Given the way Brooking and James have played since Carter was activated, it is a little disappointing that Carter hasn't got more playing time. Yeah, we all know he was hurt to start the season and didn't practice. But, hey, he has had 8 weeks. His pure athletisicm should be enough to get on the field a little more than he has IMO.

We need Carter now, IIRC, the Eagles lit up Brooking and James last game.

I think he will be a good LB with a bright future. Hopefully, his star starts to shine sometime soon. We need him. And we need him to show something now.

This is a common fallacy among a lot of fans - that pure athleticism alone is enough. It's not - there are a lot of people that have more raw athleticism running round the country than some NFL players (same for NBA & MLB), but success at the top level of sport requires more. The team apparently feels Carter needs a little more time, and that isn't a knock on Carter, nor a negative toward the coaches. Players don't all develop at the same pace, and 8 weeks really isn't much time especially considering Carter didn't get to participate in OTA's or TC. If he isn't seeing significant minutes next year I would start worrying, but for now it's a non-issue.

He's obviously been struggling which isn't a surprise he's a rookie who had no training camp and is trying to learn on the run.

Count, didn't Romo have 4 touchdowns last week?

One, one touchdown. Two, two touchdowns. Three, three touchdowns. Four, four touchdowns. Four Touchdowns! HA-HA-HA!

I don't go just based on stats, tought Felix did a fantastic job filling in (especially with no one else to fallback on) after the beating he's taken all year for being so inferior. Romo could just as easily have gotten it just like Ware could have gotten more than I've given him.

I not down on him, I really just didn't hear any news on him. I think he will be an upgrade at our linebacker position. On passing situation this defense needs four defensive lineman. Ware and Spencer should be defensive ends and linebackers that can cover and play zone.

The people down on Bruce Carter right now were probably also down on Sean Lee this time last year. Similar situations. Give it more time.

Missed assignments lead to big plays in the NFL. He is a liability on defense until he knows this defense which won't happen this year.

I think this is a really good point. From what I have gleaned from grades on the limited snaps Carter has played and what I've heard in interviews with Ryan, Carter's primary struggle is in the run game. It's really not that big of a surprise to me that a guy who played primarily in a 4-3 might not be really great at making the right run fits in a 4-3.

Also, I'd say that knowing what to do isn't everything there is to it. I knew how to juggle a long time before I could do it really well. I know where every key is on my keyboard, but I still can't type 120 wpm. Some things just take practice, and missing training camp and especially preseason games are huge given the limited number of padded practices allowed in season.

So do LBs who have lost a step. Even though Brooking and James are supposed to know their assignments, they ain't going to get any quicker. They might know where they are supposed to go but can't get there quick enough.

Do Brooking and James look like savvy vets out there? Looks to me like Sean Lee does most of the explaining.

I know Brooking and James don't have the speed to do it anymore at a high level. I don't know if Carter will miss an assignment.
