What is Greg Ellis thinking?

Ellis already figured we weren't bringing him back after last year. Then we assured him he was in our plans. It made sense to me that we would be- 8 sacks in limited playing time is nice production. But then we reach for a 3-4 end/DT prospect in round 3. They only let us keep 53 and you don't draft guys on the 1st day to put on the taxi squad. So what was the purpose of the Hatcher pick? Our depth at DE appeared to be already solid. Is Ellis on the block? Will he want to be now? I'm trying to get my arms around this pick.

BPA was a nice concept before free agency when you could stash players for years but in today's league draft picks have to contribute quickly, especially 1st day picks. That means somebody's leaving. Or does it? Help me out here.

First Hatcher wasnt a reach

Second I think Coleman should be more worried about his job than Ellis

Buy the way we did not reach for Hatcher he was rated a bottom 3rd/early4th round area so no reach on taking him. I think Coleman should be the worried one. Ellis will be gone next year and will be kept this year

I agree.

We drafted a backup to replace a backup.

Finally someone that agrees with me.

Coleman is packing his stuff already. Ellis isn't going anywhere unless something major happens. Major is not drafting a DE/DT prospect that allows us even more rotation and freshness.

Maybe that's where Gosselin had him. Scouts, Inc. and NFL Draftcountdown had him as a "late rounder" which is 6th or 7th. In any case it's a curious pick. Or did you have replacing Coleman high on your wish list?

Well seeing how every year Goose is tops at his lists I go with him.

It was BPA and he has upside thats why he was chosen

Words like "monster" and "beast" are used to describe him. Considering one of the best players ever for our franchise was called Manster.......... :D
