What is more important in a GPU for high resolution gaming?

1440 and above..........

My R290 has seen better days and one of the fans has a couple blades broken off, I have oiled the bearings a few times to keep it quiet but even now it just isn't working. Especially when the fans really kick on you can really tell its off balance a bit.

I have been shopping video cards and am curious, what factors in to a video card being good at high resolution gaming?

Core clock?
Amount of Vram?
Size of memory interface?

I think Vram overall I am going on my 730 m 4 gig dedicated laptop card.
I mean I can run whitcher 3!! with only 3.2 processor speed.

power requirements. Depending on the last upgrade your PSU may not have enough juice to run a newer GPU.
Also space also depending on how old the computer is you may not have enough depth to run the newer cards

Size and type of memory interface is where it is at. DDR5 at as many GBs that you can afford plus I would say find a card from nVidia with 352 bit DDR5

What game are you running most newer games I would go with GTX1080

if its an older game say lets say 3 or so years old GTX1070 should get you through.

I am running a R290 which as far as video cards uses a lot of juice, my power supply is a gold rated EVGA 750 watt. My processor is also pretty decent, a i7-4790K.
I was looking at some of the better GTX1060s but their low memory interfaces scare me{192 bits} even though it has good clock speeds and 6 GB Vram.

I don't want to spend 450 or so on a 1070 but it looks like it may be my only choice.

I know man! And what is with all these laptops without real hard drives?
I guess i'm gonna have to spend a lot!

I don't know much about computers but I do/have played games on them, Everquest was one. Buy the absolute best video card that you can, I know that much :laugh:
