What is the deal with Lawrence Vickers?

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on fullback assignments. and I really don't know what to look for specifically from a fullback, but i have noticed a lot of negativity here directed at Vickers.

I'm just wondering if there are specific examples people have in mind, or it simply because our running game hasn't been as dominant as we would like it to be.

What exactly is it that is prompting people to point out how horrible Vickers has been this season, and how doesn't back up his talk with his play?

The O-line needs to block, to give a lane for the FB to do his job.

Without a lane, what can he do?

I agree he hasn't played up to potential right now, but with a better O-line...we could judge it better.

I don't think he has been horrible at all.
I think he had a decent game against the giants and had a good game against Baltimore .
He was only in for 15 plays last Sunday. I saw him get to the lb and seal them on at least three runs.
I think the disappointment comes from the hype when we signed him.

the full back isn't going to open holes initially. his job is to hit the HOLE and block the LBs or defenders coming through and spring the RB. so if the HOLE is not there to beging with, he can't do much.

I haven't actually seen Vickers out there much. I'd be interested to see how many snaps he gets out there. I remember some two tight end sets and I do remember Vickers out there but I expected Vickers to get more snaps then he's been getting.

Frankly, Vickers was horrible the first four games. Couldn't get a block to save his life. It was putrid.

He was good against Baltimore though.

I didn't realize this took an M.I.T. degree to surmise.

Did you watch the games? Did you see him flailing on the ground as guys blew him up? Did you see him just running into space and blocking no one?

I did. It's right there on your TV.

He did good for the time he was in Sunday. It helps when there's actually lanes to block.

Post some vids then. I don't think you will cuz you don't know what you're talking about.

Wasn't he a street free agent? He was cut but the Texans in the offseason.

He fills the roster spot -- and is serviceable. Anybody who expected more was fooling themselves.

He was one of the better fullbacks in the league

He still is one of the best blocking FB's in the league.

People that say he has been horrible until last game.. think its any coincidence that our OL didn't play well until last game?

He can't block three people at a time.. when our OL plays well, he is able to do his job, and he does it well.

Why did the Texans part ways with him?

Salary cap they where tight against it the same reason they let Winston Justin go (who is better than the guy they have in his place) and traded Ryans and signed Bradie James to replace him.

Just like the RB's, he had defensive guys penetrating early so he is out of position to either clean that mess up OR hit his hole. He can only do his job after the OL gets theirs done. He is a lead blocker not a magician. :)
