What is the difference between these two? To me, this is at the heart of most Cowboy Fans issues. We are a talented team. Of that, there is little question IMO. Are we a good team? We make a lot of mistakes on both sides of the ball. They are not just coaching mistakes or time management mistakes, they are also execution mistakes, not understanding situations etc.

Sometimes I think fans look at the Cowboys and they see a very talented team and that translates into good. The two are not necessarily the same. I think we are talented but I don't think we are what you can call a really good team at this point.

That's just my two cents.

Honestly I don't see a very talented team on the field... Especially on defense and the offensive line.

Good teams win.

Talented teams "should" win.

A big difference between the two.

A consistent offense/defensive system/philosophy. Add to that a consistent long term approach to the draft and Free Agency (if applicable).

Even if you have players of average talent, if you have the above, I think a team can win the NFL (not saying SB here).

Honestly I don't think it's an overly talented team either.

DE (1 spot at least), Guard (at least 1 spot), ILB (1 spot), CB (1 spot), Safety (1 spot)... are all below average in my opinion, to the point they "level off" the high-points of the roster.

7-6 is about where they should be.

I agree. I just don't see the talent that 'media' is talking about. Do we have some, yes. But not as many as we need.

This. Romo, Witten, Ware are top players. Ratliff, Lee, Austin (when healthy) are excellent. Smith and Dez have all the potential in the world, but aren't top players this year. Robinson's very good. Jenkins, Felix, DeMarco: above average?

Other than that, I can't think of anyone who I'd call above average.

We're poor at C and ILB2 and CB1 (the last few games, at least). We're below average to average at LG, RG, DE1, DE2, OLB2, and S. And don't get me started on depth.

The only "unit" I'd consider strong is the offensive skill positions. The OL, the front 7, the secondary - none of these units are strong.

We're a slightly above average team that should go around 9-7, exactly where I predicted before the season started. And I think Garrett knows this and started a rebuild this offseason, cutting Gurode, drafting three OL and Carter, declining to do much in free agency.

Excellent analysis.

And really where this team is at.

I think we're very talented at the skill positions, but not in the trenches.

The answer is simple, consistency. Most overlooked aspect of sports.

When was the last time we had a super talented coaching staff? Bill Parcells, and old retiring Parcells'. But he took a pathetic team to the play offs. It's time Jerry stop trying to play God, and go get a foundation for this organization, and since he won't fire himself, he should hire the best Coach out there and turn it over to him. Everything Jerry has tried, has failed.

I think Garrett can eventually become a good coach, give him 4 or 5 years, somewhere else.

Pretty simple answer: Coaching.

Inferior coaching has cost us games that people think we're losing due to "bad luck" and being "cursed".

This is spot on IMO the excuse of talent is always used when losing.
