The question was what is our GM really thinking?
But that was not your reply. Your reply was why do we even have one. That’s not what he was thinking. That’s what you were thinking.

We did not add to the OLine. We replaced in the draft. It looks like a rebuild to me.

I am hopeful there is a plan to trade Dak.

Jerry did not want to let Dak walk for no compensation. Dak had the no trade clause and teams were willing to wait until next year and get him as a FA.

Jerry had to give Dak a deal he could not pass on $60M and or his agent has helped pre negotiate a trade for next season

Tomlin and the Steelers in my opinion are a SB contending team minus a QB. Tomlin went out of his way to compliment/admire Dak after they lost to us.

Don't ruin my conspiracy theory.
Don't think he was thinking rebuild. Rookie olineman often do pretty well their first year. They hoped Steele would return to form and Martin wouldn't decline. They overestimated Zeke and Rico, and Cooks/Tolbert IMO.

On the DLine, I think they were counting on Mazi and overestimated the talent they had at DT and then lost Sam Williams at DE. They have never valued safety and think we have enough bodies there. On paper, the secondary/coverage should be really good given the corners we have (Lewis, Diggs and Bland).

IMO, you could talk yourself into believing their plan before the season except for not adding something at running back and DT. It seems obvious we didn't have the talent on the roster at those positions. In other areas, we thought we had backups ready to step in and/or draft picks that could contribute and improve as the season progresses.

Sounds like his only plan was resigning his three marquee players, Dak, CD and then Micah and thinking they can be the core to build around.
But that is seriously flawed on several levels, namely Jerry/Stephen are the GM and have no idea how to build a team. Then, you have the first player on that list and without making this a Dak post I’ll leave it at that.

Jerry has said openly that he would give up the vast majority of his wealth in trade for another championship and I believe him. The problem is he’s also trying to manage this team and he lacks the vision and mental capacity to do that. It’s time for him to step aside and allow a younger, more up to speed and current time to come in. Whether we as fans or the front office as management recognizes it, the Cowboys are in a rebuilding phase and it’s gonna get worse after this season. This team is not going anywhere until there extreme changes from the top down.
Jerry wants to win a championship but with the decisions he made and personnel ( Coaches , players ) he oversee and brought up .

I am not aware of anyone that was buying into their plan. Not even a little bit.

Forgot to add - Jerry is saving money to be able to eat some dead money during the trade.
At $60 million per season the Cowboys couldn’t get a team to take Prescott if they sent their first round draft pick with him.

How ....... he was saying Dak would have to approve the trade ...... and it does not look like he would want to go anywhere after building his baby mamma a house.
Yeah, but that’s not the GM that’s the quarterback. I don’t mind if you wanna talk about it. I’m just curious what the hell does GM is thinking does anybody have a clue seriously?

I already answered that with a picture of the only thing Jerry thinks about ...... other than money of course.

Don’t complain, given an honest explanation.
The GM is a hobbyist. He does it because he enjoys it and can afford it. He's a rank amateur.

The contradictions (in the GM's actions) in your OP are glaring. He makes Dak the highest paid QB in the league, yet lets a lot of affordable and important talent walk. The Elliott decision is just bizarre. JJ is the only GM in the league that would make that move.

The Dak contract was simply an unforced error. Either sign Dak early for a discount, or sign him after the season for full price. Signing him both early and for full price was a mistake- one that will cripple this team for years.

So why do you think he did it. That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Profile him.
