What is up with our DLine?

Going into this season, even with the loss of McCoy...I thought our DLine would be incredible. Is it the D coordinator, not enough time to gel, or was I just drinking the Kool-aid?

I think that everyone needs to take a deep breath and understand that sacks are a QB stat. Plus:

LA got the ball out so fast, no DL was going to get many pressures.
ATL played with such a big lead, they could use a lot of play action and keep the DL off balances.

Neither of those scenarios are going to result in good days for your DL. I don't think they've been impressive as I might've thought, but context really matters.

Koolaid

The DL gained Smith, Griffen, Poe, and Gallimore.

The DL lost Marrinelli and Collins

The losses were larger than what we gained.

And LMAO at anyone who thought Poe was anything other than JAG

Implementing a new defensive scheme is always going to take time, this is going to be a year long process and most likely it's going to be a multi year process seeing as to how we will need to draft LB's and a giant run stuffing tackle for the line.

I think Aldon and Trysten have played fine. Everson has made plays as well. D Law I saw make a play on the run on the first drive yesterday then disappear. Crawford was also getting good penetration inside and I saw him being held constantly.

Context is important though. The Rams game planned to avoid the DL and we played behind yesterday literally the entire game. We held a lead for zero seconds. None of those scenarios is going to showcase the strengths of your front. These guys will ultimately come out fine. Watching our secondary and linebacker play is more concerning. With this roster, Joe Thomas absolutely cannot be your best defender.

They just cant get there....at ALL.

At least Goff was on the move a lot of the time.

Ryan just stood there untouched with all kinds of time repeatedly.

Right around Halloween itll be clear that Diggs is far and away our best defensive player. Has talent and size but most importantly...looks like he wants it.

He isnt Garrett entitled culture infected.

Multi year "process" with a bunch of them signed thru this year.

Theres a plan for you!

I don't feel like Matt Ryan had all day to throw and I do see some coverage issues so if I had to take a guess without doing a deep dive i'd say our ability to cover sucks and it's to easy for the QB to get rid of the ball before the DL can get to him.

I know for sure that was the problem week 1.

I mean.. Imagine being the Falcons defense right now. We have the backups backup playing offensive tackle for us and they were a non-factor.. That is great news for us because that is how a NFL should operate.

It's not going to matter who is signed or not signed if the guys they signed cannot stay on the field. You sign people to contracts to contribute and the last time I looked I never saw any contributions come from the IR. Expecting LVE to hold up, expecting Jaylon Smith to be the player he used to be in college is beyond insane.

The DL is good against the run......but that pass rush is terrible

LA ill give them that one because playing LA is almost like playing a triple option team in college you just dont know where the ball is going....

ATL was inexcusable that was the worst pass rush ive seen since McNabb had 2 minutes in the pocket some 15 or so years ago

idk what to make, but Seattle is up next and idk russ can throw it from the pocket and on the run hes a complete QB......

Even as lost as some of the fans are who frequent this board I'm surprised how many thought the DL would be a great unit. We haven't had a great DL since the 90s. My feelings about the DL heading into the season is well documented. I didn't it would be any better than last year and so far it's been even worse. I was surprised how many were excited about the addition of Poe and McCoy who are well past their prime and weren't very good in Carolina. I read one report that Poe was a no show the second half of the season for Carolina last year and so far he's been a no show for us. DLaw hasn't shown up since he signed his franchise record contract. He's had only 5 sacks his last 18 games since signing that deal. This season he's either completely checked out or what he's being asked to do in this defense isn't working for him. Stephen Jones was asked on the radio last week about DLaw's performance and danced around the question which speaks volumes for what he thinks.

Our pass rush has been non existent! I believe we only have 2 sacks in the first couple of games. We have issues throughout the defense but our lack of a pass rush is the biggest concern. Tristan Hill has shown some flashes but he's been far from great. The best player on our defense in week one is a player who hadn't played football in 5 years which doesn't say much for our defense. Diggs has potential but he had his share of mistakes yesterday including a dropped INT. He caught a huge break with Julio dropping a TD. Granted the D was given no favors with the 3 turnovers but you have to keep the opponent out of the end zone. The D did play better in the second half but it's going to be a long year if the offense is having to put up a lot of points every week to win games. Putting up 30+ every week isn't going to be easy with the OL issues we've had. Dak has been under a lot of duress the first 2 games. The Cowboys should be 0-2 but got away with one yesterday. If we don't get the pass rush going next Sunday vs Seattle Russell Wilson will have a huge day dropping moon balls into the hands of his receivers and using his legs to move the sticks.

The Cowboys are going to have to defend some formidable QBs this season. Kyler Murray has emerged and is going to be a handful. Lamar Jackson presents a potential nightmare if we don't find a pass rush. The only thing the Cowboys have in their favor right now is escaping with an improbable win yesterday after being 20 points down and playing in a division that appears like it's going to suck again. There's an extra playoff team this year which is going to help but the bottomline is we'll end up having to rely on teams within our division losing to make the playoffs if we don't get pressure on the QB and get teams off the field on 3rd down. We can't rely on our offense bailing us out and recovering onside kicks. We can't keep playing from behind it's not conducive to consistent winning.
