What is wrong about front loading contracts?

Seems to me that it is in the best interest of both the player and the team.

The nature of the game dictates that skills diminish.

So a player with skills that no longer matches his cap number gets cut.

By front loading teams pay for the prime years, the player gets his and the fans get to have their favorite players longer.

Nothing is wrong with it. It is when you violate the cap rules for that particular season because you frontloaded a contract.

If there is no cap for that season, then rules will be made up later.

After the CBA was agreed to, I would have had no problem if the NFL decided that all those contracts had to be redone and accounted for under the current cap. But it would have to have been ALL of them!

The only thing wrong with it is that a couple of teams took advantage of an opportunity when it came available. Just because other teams were too shortsighted or didn't have the hutzpah to pull the trigger on the same move doesn't mean that the Cowboys should have been penalized.

To me it would be the same as buying a house now and selling it for a ton of money when the market improves. You aren't going to make them give back money that someone paid for it because it was bought at an opportune time.
