What is wrong with our run game?

i tried to watch how Pollard rushes and runs thru the same OL unit as zeke when he does, and see how he has success that zeke does not
but it's hard to tell with just so few carries out of basis run formation with pollard ( two or carries per game)

i dunno if it's less schemed to hit the hole with one cut, and more stress on patience and development... or less zone block; trap n pull as in the past. dunno how much that has to do with so much excessive shotgun and zeke having to run off of that formation vs QB under center and handing it off to him deeper in backfield.
i do have a concern on the edges a neither one of our TEs have issues as i line blockers and that could contributing to the outside runs and if RB cannot bounce outside. we could use a James Hanna/Geoff Swaim.

-but the run game needs to be re-vamped in off season; i'm not buying this stacked too many at the line ,etc crap .... zeke has had a lifetime of " stacked" 8 man front and still more than managed to bus their azzes to the ground,

Lol! I think you know but my post was drinched in sarcasm. This team will never go to another SB as long as our GM has a hand in it.
I was getting ready to dial a number to get you some help or pass whatever it was around. Whew!!!

Odd because Quinn is a huge addition. Earlier there were injuries, and Crawford was never healthy. But everyone is healthy now, and however much people may have taken Crawford for granted, Bennett at least fills that loss. Covington, Hyder, and Armstrong give us stronger depth than last year. We're out Gregory, who was playing well in the back half of the season.

Still seems that the dline is just stronger. Bennett > Crawford, Quinn > Gregory, Covington + Hyder > Ross + Reid.

Scheme getting figured out, or player drop off, I don't think we're getting the same out of our star LBs as last year. We're having problems with the LBs instead of getting splash plays. That's the difference.

I missed the game, but I did notice in the highlites Thompson in the middle of some big Detroit plays. Maybe teams are adjusting to the lack of The GOAT!

(Actually, The GOAT was playing not so hot anyway, but it is likely that teams will be keying on Thompson and finding things to exploit. He's got LB speed. Woods is faster, but still on the slow side for a FS. We got a lot slower at safety going from The GOAT to Thompson.)
buy-- we have enough good players i think we are not scheming correctly for the offenses we are playing?...what do you think on that note?

morat---oh i thought you were serious..did not realize it was scarcasm..i get it now..i am very ticked myself

Cmac--- your thoughts on placing Pollard as #1 RB just for next weeks game?

I like Pollard....really do. But to answer your question Gorico…...

so i take it we are not onboard with that one?...hehehehehe
Not onboard with that.....with Pollard, this team should be more dynamic than it is on offense. Pollard & Jarwin should be in the mix more and fitting their strengths into the game plan. Next week we're going to see Kellen Moore vs Bellichick and see exactly how Dak responds with the tools and concepts given to him.

But to save everybody the trouble early.....Blame Zeke. I will not be interested in gawdy numbers if they don't control the game or leading at the scoreboard. Don't tell me about numbers if its 21-0 before we get our first movement of the chains. This is a great benchmark for this team and the fans.....and it's against a winning team. We shall see.

answer...ZEKE is whats wrong. He is slow. He isn't seeing it fast enough. His legs look dead. Pollard has high energy and live legs..he sees the hole and hes gone. Zeke doesn't need to be getting the ball as much as he has.

Blessing in disguise, for now at least. Finally we’re forced to play the way we should’ve been playing anyways.

Put the game in Dak’s hands and let him do work.

dak needs paid. HE HAS EARNED IT. Play Pollard much more..give teams more to look at.

Certainly that. We don't scheme correctly, or *at all*, *for* any opponent. "We do what we do." The defense is getting rolled by *nothing* QBs. And again this week.

But still, we're getting worse results than much of last year. I think the problem is a combination of Jaylon and LVE playing worse, and offenses scheming *for us*.

The defense got seriously spanked in the run game by the Colts, then the Rams last year. Instead of us fixing the weaknesses found, other teams have copied the template to attack those weaknesses.

I have my own theory of the structural weakness of Marinelli's philosophy against the run and started a thread on it. Walker has a long post in that thread on his analysis of our run defense weakness:

Other people had interesting things to say in that thread too.

The amazing thing about this offense is that despite the bazillion yards, most of us think we're still leaving a lot of meat on the bone.

maybe it's like Ali's rope-a-dope.
make'm think we can't.
then....BOOM.
RELEASE.
THE.
KRAKKEN!!!!!!

Cmac---- I believe also this is a benchmark game for cowboys...in fact a solid win over Patriots at Gillette stadium would announce we are in the mix who might win it all?....we saw our team turn around significantly last year...if somehow our Defense could be strong again?...let me ask you this....I have been thinking the NFL in reality has just figured out Marinelli and Richarrd defensive format...too many teams have ran over us this year..and also along with our slow starts we have been taken advantage of too easily...so what are your thoughts on whats needed going into Gillette this weekend?

I wish bill callahan was here

oh here we go again..
I don't understand why you guys keep sobbing and moping over Callahan - we were a dominant running team in zeke's first years in the league.
zeke was led the NFL in rushing the last two out of 3 years he's been in the league. And this year we are top or near the top in sacks allowed.
And Callahan is not the only qualified OL coach in the NFL.

agreed. Oline isnt moving anyone. it almost seems like we’re pass blocking even when we run.

yet I've seen Pollard brilliantly slipping and weaving into cracks and lanes - especially in the interior, how could Tony be doing that if the blocking wasn't there?

Every time we try to be a power blocking team we fail. This same line dominates when they use zone schemes that allow them to move and seal off lanes.
