B+ like the draft overall but would have taken Grant over Booker. Defense would have been transformed instantly with Grant, Ezi, and Revel. I do understand why they drafted Booker so I won’t complain to much.

A......just me but why are so hard on their Day-3 picks? An interesting nugget from Breer ( who was asking a GM about Shedure still available) where the GM reminded him NO teams go into day 3 expecting the find starters. Those picks are about finding depth and practice-squad players. As with any draft, picks 1-4 are where you better get it right. I think we did that ......100% coz we can expect significant contribution from each pick. Worrying about whether they were drafted a couple of spots too high or too low doesn't seem important to me.

I have a slightly different take on the draft which many people here will not like

In the end, what is the objective of the draft? Acquire talent to make the team better

So, yes, draft is about talent acquisition but there is a reason teams have tiers, because need’ has to factor in somewhat

In isolation, i think we had a very very good draft. The players in the top rounds have the potential to be really really good. My problems are below

Booker: very good player, not worth #12. Wr dont have a LT or a RT and we are loading up on OGs. Not going to “bully” anybody if our LT and RT are weak links. The only way this pick makes any sense is if we plan to move Smith to LT. Otherwise it would have been way better to move down to 25 and take Simmons

EZ: very very good player and talent. Great for a team that has a real DE opposite him. If EZ and Parsons are the 2 DEs on the field with Mazi and Osa on 2nd or 3rd and 5-7, as the opposing OC, im running at them everyday if im a good run team like Pilly or GB or Detroit or SF. So, EZ can spell Parsons but at least this year and probably next few years he and Micah will be on the field together very little unless Micah lines up at LB

Revel: great pick if he comes back healthy

Blue: lot of potential but not a 3 down RB. If hes on the field, the defense knows its a pass play most likely. If you run him a lot you will injure him or wear him down

More dart throwing at 1T DT

No #2 WR
No real 1T DT
No true RB

Good players? Yes

This is the kind if draft that can be great for a team that is active in FA
Great draft for this team? Not really
I think Steele is a much better run blocker than he is pass blocker. Our run game to the right side should be very good, so should the left side provided Guyton takes another step.

I wanna give it an A. Buy I went with let's wait and grade it in 3 years. I will say this, the new regime along with the scouts, and yes even the two turds, should get an A for effort. I saw a stark change in the way we do things . It's been a long time coming. Dunno if it means anything yet, but dang it, we now have some glimmer of hope, a spark.

C+.
  • Got some quality players..Booker, Ezeiruaka, Blue, Toia...who can help immediately.
  • Got some players who likely won't help this year...Revel, James, Cornelius
  • Some guys who probably won't make the team. Tommy. Mafah.
  • Almost completely ignored the most important needs on this team--RB, WR, Run defense.
  • Is the team significantly better this year? No. Some improvement but that's just because we had basically nobody on our roster.
  • The draft is a long term investment, I get it. So it really hinges on whether Revel ends up being the guy at CB. I don't like drafting an injured guy who can't play yet to replace an injured guy who can't play yet.
Biggest win: Getting Ezeiruaku will improve our defense because we will really get after the QB.
Biggest loss: The offense really isn't that much different. Blue adds some speed, as a role player, but if we don't trade for a starter, we're looking at Javonte Williams being the lead back, who was just as bad as Zeke. We're heading into the season with Mingo as #2, and that's a disaster.
Jerry needs to be on the phone with the Jags regarding Travis Etienne Jr. He had an offseason last season and the Jags drafted a RB which means he will come cheap.

Exactly. All that matters is this, a team identified a player, and they got them on the team. Worrying about the sumantics or draft level, is insignificant in the bigger picture, as long as you got the player right. I felt like we did that throughout. I saw consistency.

Don't need another RB. All that will do is expend draft capital in the future and take away reps from the new guys in the RB room. Barring injury, we should take a wait and see approach.

If they can nab Etienne for cheap I don't see an issue. He would automatically be their best RB by a long mile

It limits touches for the two guys we just spent draft capital on. I don't feel it's necessary.

Biggest miss will end up being their decision in Rd 3 ...should've taken the RB out of Iowa at that spot.

I'd give it a B.

-I hated the Booker pick. Big reach and we didn't even really need a guard. Tyler Warren was right there. The one silver lining is that Warren is a good football player and has really low bust risk. But you can say the exact same thing about Warren.

-Donovan Eziaroku (sp?) has great physical talent and All American production. Usually DEs with both of those go first round, and the second round is filled with the guys who either have one or the other (like Kneeland last year). EZ was a steal at #44.

-Revel's knee injury is concerning, but when you're in the third round, I think the risk is more than balanced out by the reward. IMO, he was by far the most talented football player still on the board... looking at the draft recap, the only other dudes who'd even tempt me would be Kaleb Johnson and Wyatt Milum.

-Jaydon Blue was a decent pick. I would've rather had Giddens, but they're fundamentally both committee backs, so I don't think it really changes our roster situation either way. Blue is a classic "lightning" guy.

-I had never even heard of anyone after Blue.

Overall, Booker is a sure bet to be a starter. Donovan EZ will probably never be a starter alongside the similarly-sized Parsons, but he'll get plenty of snaps as a rotational dude starting day 1. Revel will be a starter if he's healthy, and Blue will get snaps in this absolutely gutted backfield. The goal was to add talent to a depleted Cowboys roster, and I think we did that.

Gutted by a 5th round pick?
We all have our pet cats and players we follow. I follow UCF and Florida very closely since I live in Florida.

But I just loved Bassa’s game. I don’t hate James. Just preferred Bassa

Don’t think they loved Johnson game.

Johnson doesn’t catch passes well and run routes. They wanted somebody more explosive

Day 1 and 2 were a solid A.
Day 3 was like a C+
Overall I give it a B+, Day 3 picks don't hurt the grade as much.

Booker (B) solid starter for the next 10 years. Was a small reach but not a big enough one to worry about.

Ezeiruaku (A) not the biggest position of need but amazing value and that's the most important thing.

Revel (A+) I don't even care about the injury. ACL's in todays NFL aren't as detrimental as they were in the past. Top 15 player at 76. Other teams missed on this guy.

Blue (B-) Better backs on the board and has a fumble problem. Speed kills and it makes this pick fine. I'm just glad it wasn't a massive reach, some people wanted him on Day 2; that would have been hurtful.

James (D) The player is more like a C- but to waste a 6th to get him, makes the grade lower. If they would have just waited until 211 they could have got him there. They could have used 174 on a good player. James lacks vision, and is undersized. He will be valuable on ST but that isn't something you trade up for.

Cornelius (B+) Good value pick, I had him at the top of the 4th. He needs to work on his feet, technique is kind of wonky. He mauls in the run game, that is what this team is looking for in their O-line assessments.

Toia (A-) I like the player, he does his job and eats up double teams. I don't get the fit in Flus' scheme though. He doesn't have any pass rush. Everyone in this scheme has to get up field.

Mafah (C) He is just a big body. They messed around and had to grab a lesser talent because of it. He might make the practice squad but he isn't the back we were looking for/needed.

Akingbesote (C+) better players were available to them. He is a traits guy so if Whitecotton saw something he liked, why not throw a dart at it.
