If he keep up this pace or at least half this pace. Similar to RW $ maybe a little less, thoughts

Not to be a Debbie downer, but I got to see more before I go nuts w/ the guarantees.

We can get away w/ the franchise tag maybe

Franchise tag will cost atlest around 12 mil.... Fitz, Wayne and the top 5 WR pay wise would be a healthy one year price, I think we can get away with a 14 million SB instead of around 12 mil for one year.....

If its uncapped.

It would give us another year just to make sure. Might sound unfair, but look at the Hamlin deal.

5 year 25 million.. If he maintains a high level all year..

Nope. If Austin emerges as a legit 1 reciever, he will commmand top dollar even more than Roy Williams. If Dallas doesn't pay it (which they will) some other team will.

2 games and he's on that pace to get THAT contract?

no problem with letting the year play out and THEN worrying about it.

more of my point.

fitz and wayne - both top flight WR's to be sure but they've got YEARS into getting those types of contracts invested in being WORTH that type of money.

don't get me wrong, i hope austin pans out and becomes our #1 WR. i'd giggle myself silly to see an inhouse product FINALLY pay off.

but we're jumping the gun *just a tad* to think he'll do this every time he hits the field.

my guess is defenses will start adjusting, and those types of games will come down.

then suddenly we need to cut austin cause he sucks.

what he's done in 2 games is phenominal, to be sure. but romo has one fairy tale beginning also an reality caught up with him too.

so let's put the annointing oil down (1 phrase i'll keep from parcells) and see how he does when people plan for him and how we do at adjusting.

I don't think Jerry, or anyone in the organization, is going to worry about getting him a deal, or what he'll want, until the end of the year. We've got to see how well he does through out before we start paying him based on two games against, lets face it, very weak secondaries.

I think he's legit. I think he'll continue to make plays and be a big time playmaker. But lets wait and see before we just assume for sure it will happen.

Dallas is in no hurry to lock Austin up. He won't be an UFA at the end of the year anyway (unless a surprise CBA comes to fruition before the end of the season).

I'm lovin' what Austin has done the past couple of weeks and, to this point, he looks like he could be a solid contributor. But, I agree with the majority here. Let's see what he does against some of the top flight secondaries of the league before we break the bank on the results of a two game stretch.

I agree it is way too early. Austin needs to prove he can stay healthy and produce against tough DBs.

Lets not get the annointing oil out yet. Its two games and a little bit early to be talking about contract extension for big money. Now if he continues this blistering pace (which I personally dont think he will) then he will get whatever the current market is for mid level tier 1 WR. I hope he can do it, but Ive already been on the cinderella bandwagon of Romo, so I try to keep my expectations realistic.
