What languages do you know?

German is technically the closest language to English and probably the easiest to learn as an English speaker, but Spanish is relatively close and would probably be the most useful by far.

Any of the European (mostly Latin based) languages are easier because at least they use the same letters/alphabet and way of writing for the most part. All of a sudden f you try to learn Japanese/Mandarin/Russian etc. everything is completely different.

Fluent: English and Vietnamese

Receptively (understand and read, but difficulty talking in it unless I'm immersed in it for a few weeks): Spanish and French

I can also sign about 60 different words useful for communicating with minimally or non-verbal children.

A little French and some Mandarin. I used to be able to read and write French well but I've lost it. My Mandarin is getting better. Maybe in another year.

Jen de/jia de? Ni hui jiang Guo Yu, ba? Tai hao le!

Second language: Spanish ... 3 years in high school, 1 year in college. Best honed and retained when around friends of Hispanic descent over the years. Been awhile, since I relocated a few years back. Would probably take some brushing up to get back to where I was at my peak.

Languages I know, though? Heck, I'm still trying to learn American English ... ever evolving ... every single day, lol.

Most of the family is in Qingdao. Some in Beijing and others in college and the US and two in Toronto. I live there a few months out of the year but not in our home but at Mama's. Mama is 92 and doesn't really need us but we all rotate a few months out of the year. She writes daily and still does traditional water color daily. And plays black queen pretty well, too. Not bad for an old lady! Not bad pinyin! I'm Mei Guo.

English, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and a little Spanish and German

(3 of those are almost the same)

I just finished up a year and a half of Latin in college and now I'm working on French. Like most said, Spanish is probably the easiest.

Won't be at all useful but I intend to learn some Scots Gaelic or Gaidhlig

I'm familiar with Qingdao, mostly because of the German influence, and the beer, right? I bet it's a cool city.

Taipei's a bit of a pit, but I got lucky with the in-laws and extra-lucky with their daughter, so I've got nothing to complain about. Though sometimes I still do. :)

English, Spanish, HTML..

My lady speaks English, Spanish, Farsi, Arabic, French and can read music.

Yeah, they still have the beer festival every year and the most famous is named after the city. Many people think that beer is made in Germany. They even sell the beer in big clear bags.

My in laws are the best. They are very good to me. Don't know how Lao Po puts up with me though.

You are now officially my xiong di.
