Im sitting here and im still wondering what is it other than his youth if that even matters that had all these teams interested in him?

Say what you like but Payton managed to devise an offense that was able to get something done without consistent blocking.

and pedigree is right too -- working with Bill is like going to Harvard.

also, Malcolm in the Middle was very popular in New Orleans.

You can almost do a 6 degrees of Parcells when naming Head Coaches in the NFL and NCAA.

Parcells Football Philosiphy is proven and time tested, and many coaches give Parcells credit first when they are asked for an influence.

Charlie Wiess recently said that he learned his football mechanics from Belicheck and learned how to get the most from a player from Parcells

I think he'll be a better head coach than a coordinator.

Not sure why... just a hunch.

I think some have forgotten that Payton was starting to become a very hot name about 4 years ago. When the Giants offense faltered, and Fassel took away the playcalling duties, some teams got scared off.

Al Davis wanted him recently though, and almost hired him.

In the end, you are getting a guy with a good track record who has worked for good organizations and good coaches. He's young, energetic, and seems like the kind of guy who is going to win.

He works wonders with avrage QB's (excluding Bledsoe....he is the sizz-nit)

It just could be he interviewed well in a place that:

1. Is looking at a lot of turmoil to come over the next two years. They could be homeless again and will likely have to change cities at some point.

2. Has had trouble getting good quarterback play since the elder Manning left.

3. Is in a very tough division with declining prospects for next year.

I understand Payton's desire to be a head coach, but The NO gig is a bad one. I think he will regret it.

There is alot of truth to what you are saying....
But N.O dose have alot of talent .They have underachieved not only this year but for the last few years.
All that beaing said , if the Saints start winning Payton will be a hero in N.O.

wait, I've got an idea.

maybe professional football teams and those people that run them have some idea of what good coaching is. Nah, that can't be right. We all probably know much better.

how bout the fact that he is actually attractive. makes sense to me
