A leader is able to capitalize on opportunity. That applies to both a coach and a player.
This involves an evaluation process as well as an ability to challenge a set of challenging opportunities.
First, it is alright to get knocked upon one's butt, but then, one must get up; dust off; and continue on with mission.
Mission dictates direction, and resolution determines arrival at strengths that enhance performance. But that still must meet with the opportunity to succeed/win in clutch situations.
Applied to the Cowboys, Jason Garrett was part of the development, successfully, on the offense. An offensive line was paid for, by internal actions, since the lockout. Dallas paid the price as to change, and now have sustainable offensive line. If nothing else is done, their offensive right tackle can be moved inside, and the recently signed offensive tackle bumped out on the right side. That remains very stable and still a developing strength.
To seize opportunity, one has to challenge what is challenging itself. The team, yea, under Garrett has done this on the defensive side as well.
It now has to challenge defensively, and in real game challenging situations. Just as it has done in the past.
This doesn't mean that the mechanics for a passing game, has to not now meet an updated need for salary accountability as well as production.
If one wants to compare to New England's Bellichick, then do that fairly. Player movement and salary both play roles there, as it should here in Dallas. But if things are done correctly in that application in Dallas, give that credit as well...
Dallas reached the point that newly developing triplets needed for an upgrade at wide receiver. So be it, as long as the team can in the interim, remain direction and competitive balance as well.
We all can pinpoint likes to satisfy personal views of positional integrity, but for now, this fan sees wide receiver and linebacker as a must to improve upon. A first and a move up in the second, can secure both of these items.
The team has a departed Murray, Romo, and now - Bryant. Hey, growth is needed...and now. But the core strength is still in movement forward, as witness to the top winning NFC team in two of the past four seasons, denote. That does go to the credit of Jason Garrett.
Oh, for the negatives with sites on Jason Garrett...that will not be overlooked, if the team doesn't meet challenge and wins. Winning is still the bottom line. Garrett will have to meet this challenge of his own, or yea, he will be replaced.
As to jumping ship or stretching blame out of normal boundaries, too many positive things and player changes are succeeding, to talk the talk of complaint, until the walk to talk has been given a fair trial and opportunity for it's own growth. Solid elements have and will be added to arrive at a sustainable winning team and roster. That has to be given credit to Jason Garrett...as that is just the way that works as well.
