What might a Kellen Moore-led staff look like?

Plausible candidates for OC
  • Doug Nussmeier (current PHI QB coach)
  • Jon Kitna (former QB coach under KM in DAL, coaching HS ball)
  • Jason Witten (as-if any introduction is needed)
Could see all three on staff in some capacity, actually. Nussmeier would have to be OC, though, in order to hire him away from PHI.

Plausible candidates for DC
  • Mike Zimmer (as-if any introduction is needed)
  • Al Harris (as-if any introduction is needed)
  • Robert Saleh (ex-Niners DC, ex-Jets HC, and being interviewed today ostensibly for HC job)
  • Leslie Frazier (ex-Bills DC, current SEA Asst HC, being interviewed tomorrow ostensibly for HC job)
  • Matt Eberflus (ex-IND DC, ex-CHI HC)
  • Brandon Staley (current Asst HC in SF, formerly KM's boss w/ Chargers)
  • Derrick Ansley (served beside KM as DC for LAC in 2023, current GB passing game co-ord)
  • Kris Richard (passing game co-ord in DAL when KM was first hired, JAX DBs coach in 2024)
Plausible candidates for STC
  • John Fassel (as-if any introduction is needed)

Other plausible candidates for position coach hires (only those recently employed in NFL, and likely available because of HC change)
  • Chris Beatty (ex-CHI WR coach and interim OC, who served as WR coach for KM in LAC in 2023)
  • Derrick Foster (ex-NO RB coach who served as RB coach for KM in LAC in 2023)
  • Todd Downing (ex-Jets OC who was KM's QB coach in DET when he played)

Don't forget those former Cowboys players.

I'm not forgetting, but then of course that gets to be a more speculative list. This is just looking at coach-level connections. I'm aware that it's been said Tashard Choice is a real candidate for RB coach, but I'm unaware of any connection he would have to KM.

Also not forgetting that there are some guys like Marc Columbo who have been away from coaching, but who conceivably could be brought back.

Also not forgetting that there are current staff who could be invited back, but I'm inclined to think a number of those are more likely to end up with McC in CHI or NO (assuming he gets one of those).

Not sure why this is a bone of contention with some of y'all..

you do realize this is done all over sports especially in the NFL it's all over the place..

I mean they don't seem to have a problem with Dan Campbell wasn't he an ex-lion and an ex-cowboy hired as a head coach seems to be doing fine, I mean wasn't New England hiring of Mayo and now back to Vrabel isn't that nepotism? Demico Ryans back to who , correct the Texans, doing well? yup,? hmmm

I mean isn't that ex-players going back to their teams to coach? There are probably hundreds but I'm not going to sit here and discuss it ,I'm just saying why is this seem to be more of a cowboy issue here when it's really not a Jerry Jones issue this is something the whole league does I mean if you look over at the Dallas mavericks i mean didn't jason kidd play for them? sure he did..

Again, standard practice in sports this happens all over the place you bring back ex-players who want to coach not mention every single player who's played as candidates, but some want to coach....

you know better than that this Cowboys roster even though it was limited with injuries this year and yes there's some holes in it could trip into five wins they did it this year and it wasn't because of the coaching trust me This is why we're moving on to another coaching staff but this current roster is not set up to have zero wins and by the way that's only happened how many times in the NFL so can we exaggerate a little bit closer to reality if you wanna say another sub 500 season that would be agreeable to me that that could possibly happen but having no wins that's not happening with this current team.... I mean the giants are a good example I think they have a terrible coaching staff they have a bad roster and somehow one how many games like 4?

I think there's a good chance Fraizer is high on Jerry's list as the next Cowboy DC and fallback option as HC. In other words, 1st on his target list for DC, 3rd-4th for head coach. Either way, he has a ton of experience.....

Also, It appears Jerry wants at least one assistant coach (coordinator) on staff with Super Bowl experience.

It's not with me. For example I've advocated for JWit at TE and Irvin at WR among others.
Well there you go there's a good example of one wants to be a coach and probably will end up here in some capacity someday but I don't think Irvin has any ideas on being a coach so he's out we need to be realistic Tony Romo is not gonna leave his cushy job to be a coach here he's just not at least not from what I can tell the man is very comfortable right now he has time to spend with his family he's making good money still on TV we need to be realistic Deion Sanders was realistic he might someday wanna come to the NFL and it might be the Cowboys...

Easy to forget... or it was for me... just how highly regarded Frazier's defenses in Buffalo were before he stepped away for a year.

Also, bridging off of @FuzzyLumpkins post... it is a major point that the O-line coach hire, no matter who is HC, is going to be huge, and/but there is no obvious candidate on the table as far as I've been able to make sense of it.

Matt Eberflus left on bad terms. He couldn't wait to leave once he was blocked by the Jones family.
He's also in a bad place given his debacles vs. WAS and vs. DET that led to his firing. The way those two games ended have potentially made him radioactive in the NFL. I hate to see it because the body of work isn't terrible given all of the context, but he may have to go back to being a position coach for a bit before even getting DC interest.
