What move would you make?

If you could make one move on this team for 2011, what would it be? I'm not talking about signing Brady or Peyton. A realistic move.

If it's true about his contract expiring at the end of this year. Mine would be to get Dom Capers at DC.

If it's not then I would go after Logan Mankins to start the process of fixing the OL. I don't think NE can franchise him. It would have been to get Ngata but Baltimore plans to franchise him.

I'm afraid it is going to take a thread's-worth of moves to fix what ails this team...

I could go with both of those moves.

Fox may be available too as a DC, but he may want to take a year off first.

Does Fox have any experience with a 3-4?

Move Ratliff to end and through free agency, the draft and/or trades find the best anchor D tackles we can.

Turn over complete control to Stephen Jones
Hire a real GM
Promote Garrett to HC
Hire Dennis Thurman as DC
Draft Oline early and often

All this talk about Capers has the Cowboy's DC.... how does it happen? Why does it happen? What's not to like in GB in terms of defensive players, talent, etc?

Other than possibly money what's the motivation?

Ditch the 3-4.

Let me help you with that throw my friend.:D

My move would be to get players on the team that have heart, drive and anger.

Hire Norv as OC and Mike Nolan as DC (if both get their walking papers at seasons end).

He and Garrett are friends and want to work with each other. Happens in business all the time.

I said realistic. Stephen is not getting control until JJ is pushing up daisies.

The defense is the biggest problem, but it's going to take several moves to fix it. First, Dallas needs a good 3-4 defensive coordinator, but who knows where they're going to find him. They also need a real FS and an ILB that can cover and play every down.

That would be a start.

  • Hire the next Bill Polian as GM to have full authority over personnel
  • Promote Jason Garrett to the HC duties w/ full authority over players on the roster and what rolesthey play and also a high level of input on whos being signed and drafted.
  • Hire Mike Nolan as DC including Asst. HC title

reality is that we are not going to be able to fix everything at once. there is also so much money and the cap.

so where to start....I would say with the OL

the first couple of moves needs to be to sign one of the FA guards (Evans, Blalock or mankins). then draft a tackle (even if we have to trade down a few spots but not a lot).

that should help solidify the OL a little more, specially on the right side. I would love to replace Gurode but you can't fix everything in one off season and he is still servicable. that would leave Kosier's spot....tough call.

then we need to find a saftey. just one to start with and that alone can help the defense tremendously. almost no team boasts 2 top notch safties. so either target Atogwe or spend a high draft pick on a saftey....so the first two picks should be focused on saftey help and OL, specially tackle.

target some MLBs in the draft. forget about those who wow you with numbers. find football players. even those that give you first two downs.

NT and DEs for 3-4 can be found earlier. I think Brent is got a future. he has some work left to do, but he can be decent for a while. Igor needs tob e replaced and I would consider moving Rat to his spot or the other DE.

just addressing 4 spots on this team will make a world of difference along with more physical, REAL training camp this time around.

I'll go with a GM that knows what he is doing.

For the defense:

New DC and new staff with an attacking 3-4 scheme.

Find another pass rusher to compliment Ware (maybe Quinn or Fairley depending on how the draft plays out).

At least one new safety to replace Ball.

Try to find a monster NT to start.

Lee in for Brooking. Maybe move Spencer to ILB if we get a new OLB starter.

For the offense:

Two new OL: RT and RG. You can leave everything else as is. Preferably one of the OL is a young FA and one is a 1st or 2nd round pick who can start immediately.

I agree with pretty much everything here.

I like the NT position addressed with some urgency because way too often our DL gets dominated and cannot generate any pressure up the middle. If the opposing O has the ball on our 1 yd line, I pretty much give them a TD 99.9 % of the time. Almost all the TFL by our DL comes from teams running outside on us with D WARE stringing the RB out for a loss. Rarely do I ever see our interior DL tackle RB for a loss or stuff a LOS.

If the right side of the OL showed 25% improvement it would be tremendous.

Ball should move back to back up CB duties. He's just not good as a FS.

We have to replace Ball with someone game ready. The TD throw to Roberts illustrated that Ball has made zero progress this year. It was a two-man pattern and Roberts was the only guy on his side of the field, yet he wasn't even in the same zipcode as Roberts when the ball was released.
