Jaws, Phantasm, Exorcist, The Funhouse, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween,

I didn't swim for weeks after watching Jaws. The Funhouse and My Bloody Valentine weren't as scary but I have fond memories of watching them.

Evil Dead II deserves mention as well. I could go on forever on this topic.

In the summer of 1969, a babysitter took my sister and I to an afternoon double-feature at the local Palace Theater...

Playing were "Dracula" and "Frankenstein".

Dracula didn't scare me much, maybe because I was too young to "get" the whole vampire thing.

But the Frankenstein monster scared the bejesus out of me. Between the monster throwing little Maria in the water (I didn't know how to swim) and throwing Dr. Frankenstein out of the windmill... that was it! It bothered me for days afterward.

If anything though it flamed my passion for horror movies, even though they would scare me from time to time.

I went to the original run of "The Legend of Boggy Creek" and yes it scared the hell out of me!

A small-time zombie flick called "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" was put on TV in '74 and that scared the piss out of me and made me a lifelong fan of that topic.

Someone mentioned "Gargoyles".

Yeah that was a good quality scary made-for-TV movie.

The 70's were a high point for good made-for-TV movies like "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" and "Bad Ronald", which were both scary.
