-Right DE

Team still has no idea when and if the likes of Aldon Smith & Randy Gregory will be reinstated. They still have Crawford who is coming off of major surgery, Armstong who hasn't done much in 2 years and a bunch of prospects. Yes, would love a Clowney or an Griffen, but there still a few quality DE's out there like Sheard from the Colts.

-Strong Safety

It looks like the team is going to head into the season, essentially two Free Safeties starting at the position. Team does have Thompson who can play either spot, as well as Wilson who was drafted as a SS, but showed more Free Safety type abilities in camp. It's a need, but not anywhere close to the one at RDE.

Agree with the OP, RDE and especially S. They go yet another year without really addressing it. Yes the like Woods and did bring it HaHa. So they are content for now, and things did not fall their way. Can't get is all fixed in a year. But seems they could have done a little more. Still a ways to go yet too.

But let me ask this. If and when Gregory and / or Smith is re-instated. Would you still feel RDE needs to be addressed. Mostly because neither has played for a while. I know many will say they can't be trusted. But take that out of the equation. As if they can be trusted, what player on the current roster is any better than they are. By that, take away the haven't played for a while myth. The is what TC is for.

If they bring in a RDE, such as Clowney or Griffin or as mentioned Sheard. Then they have Gregory and Smith. That means players like, and most are fan favorites in Jelks, Jackson, Armstrong, and newly drafted Anae, are most likely gone, even if they release Crawford.

May be a nice problem to have, and no, they may not be trade candidates. We think that even year, this roster is deep, we can trade a few. It never happens.

It's a fine line, do they add a veteran DE who in essence would be a 1 yr progress stopper for the young prospects? Do they throw Aldon/Gregory into the fire or bring them along slowly, which they did with Gregory in the past? Perhaps they add more of a base defensive end who is solid against the run and allow other behind him to become a factor in the nickel.

Wonder if we'll hear anything this week from Roger.

That being said, at least RDE has a few options left in FA that could be starters.

SS, no clue how Nolan/Harris want the two safeties to line up. I know in Miami in 10 and 11 Nolan had Yeremiah Bell as his SS. Who was a traditional box safety. But he was also the best they had too at that time. So not sure if Nolan prefers a 8th man safety(at times) or two guys that can cover deep

Marshall Newhouse (Swing Tackle), Tony Jefferson (SS) and Cameron Wake / Jabaal Sheard (RDE)

Sadly though, I see them being content at safety and DE.

A QB under contract. SS got a massive jolt just from no longer having perennial bum Jeff Heath on the roster.
