What options does the team have to replace Tyron?

  • Trade for a plug and play starter like Wynn from the Patriots
  • Sign a fa starter, this late might be too difficult to find one.
  • Shift green rookie Tyler Smith to LT and McGovern starts at LG
  • Move Zach Martin to Right Tackle, insert McGovern at RG, Steele moves to LT
  • Move Zach to LT and insert McGovern at RG.
In any case, the team HAS to sign or trade for a veteran Tackle due to lack of depth purposes.
After listening to Jerry and Adam Shefter I think Tyler will play left tackle when we play the Bucs. All training camp long the line has been these 5 guys plus Tyron. Tyron is done, move Tyler outside.

It's absolutely NOT stubbornness...more like stupidity. Signing Dak for all that money and then neglecting the Oline is.....just what really bad organizations do. Can't stand him or his crap eating grin kid.
Crazy is it not ?
Break the bank signing Dak, and not protecting the investment...

The ONLY thing this offensive line has going for it is run blocking/strength. There are so many warts, but I do think this is a capable run blocking unit. The interior line has plenty of size/strength, Steele is perfectly adequate and we were likely already planning on a ton of 12 personnel this year I expect. And given that the strength of the team is now the defense, I'm ok with that.

Where this will get bad is when the Cowboys are chasing. When they have to go to 11 or S11 and chase points. Dak needs to find his running legs again this year.
Yep, like running for his life! LOL

Agree, it’s the most likely outcome

It's either ball or Tyler Smith.

They drafted ball to be a swing tackle.

They drafted Smith to takeover at LT.

In hindsight They should have drafted a tyron replacement before now but they were overly excited about CD. If CD doesn't explode to show he's a #1 then that draft along with any playoff hopes will be a bust and I'm not accepting people blaming a 4th round pick who shouldn't have to start at one of the most important positions on offense.

Whitworth joined the convo after last night. He is ancient but he still has enough gas to play another season. He'd also be a good person to have Tyler around. IIRC Whitworth partners with Duke Manyweather, who Tyler uses for training

I would love Whitworth as a Cowboy, he was still very good at his age.

Of the options, Whitworth is probably the "season saver" Maybe Wynn or Fisher, but Fisher is only really average and I dont know if Wynn is a real LT

- 3rd option sounds the best. Tyler to LT. Which would I rather see at LT ? Tyler or Josh Ball ? I’d take the best man up.
Sadly the preparation been poorly handled.

- If Wynn was any kind of quality, and as bad as teams need quality OL, why would Pats get rid of him, a former No.1 pick ?
And you’d better check his durability and availability rate and history.

- oh you can still sign a vet FA,.. but what kind of quality would he be ?
How much on a downside would he be ? But at this point Beggers cannot be choosers.
And of course we’re hearing folks throwing names around … Jason Peters,.. Andrew Whitworth .. Eric Fisher

- Moving Martin to any outside OTs, is a bad idea. Among several problems, how often we hear QBs say they are more worried about pressure coming from the middle,
inside of the pocket where they cannot step up and follow thru with their throws ?

- I’m usually opposed to moving two players around vs one player. If anything, I could consider martin to LG to team with rookie LT Tyler,
while McGovern is far more comfortable at RG than he is LG. Tyler is not only gonna have his issues at LT ,
but it doesn’t help that he is gonna have a very weak LG in McGovern, even weaker than what Williams was..

Sorry, but I didn't see this and started a similar thread (although I screwed it up and accidentally put RT instead of LT in the title)

In any case, this is what I put as options:

LT Ball
LG Tyler S (Assuming McGovern doesn't start)
C Biadasz
RG Martin
RT Steele

(1)
LT Tyler S.
LG McGovern
C Biadasz
RG Martin
RT Steele

LT Martin
LG Tyler S.
C Biadasz
RG McGovern
RT Steele

LT Steele
LG Tyler S.
C Biadasz
RG McGovern
RT Martin

LT Steele
LG Tyler S.
C Biadasz
RG McGovern
RT Martin

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE: Sign or trade for a new LT

I'm not at all for putting Martin at either OT role.

One set i did not see on your option packages is a possible Martin to LG, next to Tyler, but it's not my first option. ..
It means a great deal to have a clean interior pocket, even more than edge rushes, according to testimonies of QBs

With the lack of experience we have i'd like to have as less moving parts in multiple starters as possible.
With the current personnel i'd prefer to see it such as ...

(1)
LT Tyler S.
LG McGovern
C Biadasz
RG Martin
RT Steele

(2)
LT Tyler S
LG Martin
C Biadasz
RG McGovern
RT Steele

-I believe the most likely scenario is the one you prefer: Tyler to LT and McGovern LG. Team could also start Forniak at Guard and keep McGovern in that backup role. Since McGovern has been practicing at LG, you would think he is the one that gets the starting nod.

-Any fa signed at this juncture, we are talking more about adding veteran depth, then finding a replacement starter for Tyron, unless a player like Whitworth becomes available, which seems unlikely.

-They could trade for Wynn who is more of a tweener, but has experience playing multiple positions and both tackle spots. He does have some durability concerns. He will be a fa after the season, no way should they give up any pick higher then a day 3 one. Tunsil is another one who could potentially be available as the Texans are in full rebuilding mode. His price tag would be much higher and become more of a long-term answer.

-In my opinion, team has to move on from Tyron after this season and take on 8 million of dead money to do so. They also need to find out if Tyler is the future answer to the position, so they can prepare next season to continue the rebuilding job for the unit. Think it is a huge yr for the likes of Biaz, Steele and McGovern.

We saw what happens when you put Steele/McGovern on the same side, think Martin has to stay at RG.

Yeah, Wynn is more of a tweener, might be better as a Guard then a Tackle. However, he would give the team a lot of flexibility. It all comes down to the price to acquire him. Would you give up two high picks for Tunsil?

I don't like the idea of moving Martin to OT either. I feel he's just been too damn good at RG to consider screwing with that.

I had a fleeting thought about a scenario with Martin moving to LG, and I see the logic of having him there to help Smith, but I just didn't think of it as real option, although I suppose it could be as much as a few others.

Tunsil isn't a realistic option. Thats just media talk. Its something like 34 million in dead cap for them. There has been no indication that Houston has any interest in moving him

Either 1 or 2.
Too many moving parts on the other options.

when was that ?

- Steele has started at RT with Martin being there at RG.

- When McGovern had the one start at RG (martin Covid19) he was sided with Lael Collins.

When McGovern replaced Connor Williams after he got benched, Tyron was also down and Steele played LT. Remember, the Chiefs game.
