According to PFF, here are the Cowboys offensive snap count leaders NOT including the OL & QB, so far this season through four games:

Geoff Swaim 227
Ezekiel Elliott 218
Cole Beasley 153
Allen Hurns 151
Michael Gallup 119
Deonte Thompson 108
Blake Jarwin 75
Tavon Austin 64
Terrance Williams 39
Jamize Olawale 24
Rod Smith 23
Rico Gathers 20
Dalton Shultz 2

Some observations:
1. Seems like Tavon Austin should get some more snaps based on his production. He’s averaging 16 plays a game? Seriously?
2. For a guy making $4 mil this year, TWill ain’t getting much snap count love. Headed for a cut soon?
3. Having Rod Smith get some more snaps would probably help Zeke stay fresh for the long haul. Surprising he only has 23 snaps. He needs more.
4. Geoff Swaim with more snaps than Zeke. Hmmm....I would have lost a bar bet on that one.
5. Dalton Schultz apparently wasn’t as “NFL ready” as this FO thought on draft day.

Other thoughts?

Swaim is a greasy fast beast. lol. Was great to see Dak get out of the pocket and hit him for about 20. Sweet play.

Yeah it would be nice to have another rb to use, but I don’t think Rod Smith is very effective.

4 games but that is low
We don’t use a blocking back much but he is a good receiver
Think I could figure out a way to use that
I was guessing lower. Kinda a mystery why we have a FB when we stopped using them a decade or so ago.

I sure as hell missed 20 snaps with Rico "Jock-A-Mo" Gathers. I thought I would have heard the yelling all the way down here. Why aren't we 4-0?

Talk-in' 'bout, Hey now ! Hey now ! Ri-co, Ri-co, un-day
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né, jock-a-mo fee na-né

Look at my hero all dressed in blue Ri-co, Ri-co, un-day.
I bet-cha five dol-lars he'll know what to do, jock-a-mo fee na-né

Or...Swaim is the best of a weak collection of TEs.
The starting TE would get the highest number of snaps for the run game. I wonder how that compares with Witten through 4 last season? He got all the defensive and ST snaps too because I saw here that he refused to come off the field.

Baffles the mind how Thompson and Austin haven't earned more snaps than Hurns. Swaim is the only TE worth having on the field, and we always have atleast 1 on the field.

Bob Sturm has posted some hilarious film clips of Rico clearly not knowing his assignment on given plays. Of his 20 snaps, lord knows how many of them he actually did what the play called for.

SWAIM HAS THE MOST SNAPS!?!?! GEOFF SWAIM!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Oh my gosh. Okay lord, I'm ready to go.

The more I thought about it, the more I’m not surprised. Swaim isn’t a great player, but who else among that weak TE cast is going to get more snaps? It may also signal that this team isn’t using 5 WR sets very often...and I don’t really know that we have 5 good WRs either.

T.Will taking 15 % of the snaps
Tavon Austin taking 26 % of the snaps

What are our coaches thinking? What in the heck is Garrett thinking ?!

Here's WR targets as a percentage of routes run:

Thompson 19.0% (12 of 63)
Austin 15.4% (6 of 39)

And passer rating on those targets:

Gallup 28.5
Thompson 93.4
Austin 158.3
Hurns 78.8
