Time to swallow your pride, Stephen and Garrett. Re-sign Hardy for vet minimum with incentives. And cut him in week 5 or after if necessary. We have forced ourselves into this corner by not signing Mario Williams or JPP to the reasonable contract they got. If we do not do this, we will be forced into drafting for need at #4 and picking Bosa. If Ramsey, Jack or Elliot is ranked higher on our board, this would be tragic.

Hardy is in no rush. He'll just wait during the season when a playoff team has an injury and needs a reinforcement.

All he is doing right now is attending school at Oxford.

Hypothetical Trade:
Cowboys Receive: Muhammad Wilkerson and 2016 3rd round Pick
Jets Receive: Gavin Escobar, Ronald Leary, 2016 2nd round pick, and 2017 6th round pick

Why the Cowboys do it:
Gives them a chance at an elite pass rusher that is a 2x 2nd team all-pro and still only 26. If Jerry truly believes his team is on the cusp of a title, he might be just crazy enough to do it. Wilkerson likely replaces Crawford as our starting 3 tech and allows him to move outside to DE where he would be no longer undersized. This deal only gets done if we believe we can strike a long term deal with Mo which would likely be somewhere between 14-18 a year for his services. This is doable by cutting or restructuring Carr after the Tyron and Crawford restructures already. Escobar and Leary are talented but underutilized pieces that could be expendable. Losing their high 2nd rounder definitely stings, but they get a mid 3rd rounder in return so maybe not too tough a pill to swallow. They also lose a 6th the following year which stings but not too bad especially if Jerry thinks we can compete next year and believes that 6th will be a low one.

Why the Jets do it:
They have big holes on their roster still (including at starting QB) and are just about out of $ to fill them. They are desperate to trade Mo and its unlikely any team will offer them the 1st they've been asking for and also be willing to commit such big money to a guy. This nets them a borderline 1st to acquire more young cheap talent and fills their holes at starting TE (all TEs on their roster had combined 8 receptions last year) and OG (last year's starter Willie Colon is 32, finished on IR, a FA, and is said to be considering retirement) while also acquiring an extra pick for 2017 in the process.

I get that this is extremely unlikely but I just found it kinda interesting. Would also allow us to let Hardy walk which it sounds like we'd like to do. I believe Mo would still be very effective in a 4-3 switch and him along with Lawrence, Gregory, and Crawford gives us one of the younger/high potential lines in the NFL.
